Joker preview

Joker preview

Comments

In the future, Joker will be a midnight movie, like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Everyone will dress up in their fancy suits and dance up and down the aisles, or they will wear camisols del T del Chapulin Colorado and steal the dancers' home-made signs.

Steve Ray

Thank you for watching this movie so I don't have to

Didge Ridoo

Any idea the track title from the soundtrack? Haven't seen the movie yet, but music's my thing.

Samantha

The film Joker gives us no reason to think or believe that it has any position or POV on romance or rejection. So if you think Joker (2019) feels like "white boy/incel" cinema, then you probably sense their subtle influence everywhere you go.

Steve Ray

I personally disagree about the dancing scenes. I think they’re spread out perfectly throughout the film to where they aren’t boring and aren’t without meaning. Each time you see Arthur dancing represents a completely different emotion being displayed by the character. From trying to act confident in his home, to the first time he actually feels power/control of his life in the park bathroom, to the complete transformation to Joker towards the end on the staircase, which is also a great contrast to the first shot we see him walk up those stairs. Just my opinion though

Daniel Stephan

this feels like the white boy/incel's avatar tbh? like. it wasnt bad. it wasnt great. it was kinda pretty. we're all gonna forget about it in a year bc it was boring

SamichMachine

I liked it overall but as Jenny mentioned, I feel a greater sense of lost potential. I was intrigued when it didn’t make Joker all that charismatic or intelligent and showed what lies at the heart of such criminals - a very disturbed individual. That the story then has to be forced into the Batman mythos and shallowly turn him into that crazy clown we all love and hate seems like a bit of a let down, when they could have taken things in more interesting and mature directions.

KHL

This is why I love Jenny - she finds and elucidates all of these details that I recognized momentarily during the movie but which my small brain quickly papered over because it was easily distracted by clowns and riots and little people (I hope this is the currently-acceptable nomenclature) with delightful accents.

🎶 cause you had a bad day 🎶

Elliot Aitken

The dancing segments are a very small portion of the movie. I think they were unnecessary though.

Peter

I enjoyed Joker as well but when I go to the movies I just turn off my brain and take whatever Hollywood throws at me. That's why I love Jenny's reviews and fresh perspectives they help me be a better moviegoer.

Luis

LMAO BUT REALLY THOUGH, MERYL STREEP AS EVERY DC CHARACTER WHEN

The Doom Merchant

Hell yeahhh so happy I became a patron.

This movie has big sobbing baby elephant energy. I'm not a fan of Phoenix in a way that I cant justify at all so I'm glad youre reviewing it!

Neil Dutton

Also "I'm taking that out of your paycheck" realistically how much did the sign cost. I know he's essentially living in poverty so that's not a non-issue but you'd think at that point in the conversation it would just be like, ok. Do that if you have to I guess. It escalated in such a weird way

Jenny Nicholson

omg can't stop laughing at the Mamma Mia Joker trailer just brilliant!!

Luis

I could watch an entire video of you ranting about the "going out of business" sign scenes. That sequence had the most dumbs per second of the entire movie. Why was it so hard to believe that the kids who beat Arthur up broke the sign? And I also found the way the lead kid was directing the attack to be a bit ridiculous. "Kick him! Yeah..keep kicking him" All this because they found his job to be silly? There should be better ways to show that Arthur felt alienated without making it seem like the world was going out of its way to be a dick to him.

Bryan Sutton

Anyone able to confirm if those were violins or cello? I'm leaning towards cello...

Andrew Carney

Joker is an establishment movie pretending to be an anti-establishment movie. Or something.

Spark_19074

Avant garde style dancing in slow motion with spooky violin music playing in the background is exactly what I've been imagining this movie as after hearing people talk about it. I also just realised that I've never seen any promotional material for this movie, not even a trailer on Youtube. Maybe the algorithm just knows that I don't like "Trauma Conga Line" type stuff.

Lea Chinelo

i agree with all of your points so far but this movie was such a blast to watch i found myself not caring about the dumb stuff lol

Elizabeth DeSantis Miller

Same here, I asked on twitter but didn't see a response (yet). I don't think it's too long though!

Andrew Carney

How long after a preview does Jenny usually post the full video? 1st month patron here.

Bree

Wow. You're one of the few people that are pointing out that they decided to just dump over the bucket of woe. Any one of those issues could have been enough to nudge him down the road (especially since they leaned so heavy on the mental illness) where they needed to go... However, by showing literally everything that could go wrong happening, it just seemed over the top and broke down some of the writing. Curious how many of your fans will be lovers of this movie and just go crazy that you didn't think it was P E R F E C T, which, by far, it is not.
