Preview: The Other last jedi video

I'm pretty hype to get this video done because it's a lot of stuff I've been wanting to say. I don't top that Snoke joke at the beginning though

This preview is 7 minutes, a little longer than usual because based on the sheer volume of the raw footage I think the finished product will be like 30 minutes! aahhhhh

It Big

Jenny Nicholson

Now since I'm focusing on it, how the hell did Jenny manage to hide her entire body and a staff behind the big Porg in the corner of her bed?????????

Blue Corn

I would sign up for your Fandom Psychology Seminar. I'd even bring snacks! Looking forward to the full video!

I can see what you're saying about Kylo's fall. But I still think, if that's the case, we weren't given enough information to be certain. I agree completely what you're saying about the romance. But, again, the problem I have is that it didn't go anywhere and I don't see it going anywhere. About this, I could be very wrong. Perhaps that is an important element that will develop in the next film. I've been disappointed by the novelizations. In the original movie and novelization, Vader clearly was the last living Force user. The Emperor was not a Force user. No mention of Sith. In the novelization of TFA, during Rey's vision, she hears someone say, "I'll be back sweetheart. I promise," and when Rey Force grabs the lightsaber in the forest, Kylo says, "It is you." Those things aren't in the movie. That means, as far as I'm concerned, they don't exist. Kyle's statement, in particular, is inconsistent with TLJ. I read the Rey prequel to TFA and was disappointed about how Rey was portrayed. The story rang false, especially the end, and didn't achieve the point I think it tried to make. Instead, it made the point that she was not too bright. And it really didn't give us any more depth or information about her. And, I'm sorry if I sound really negative. I have a love hate relationship with TFA. Overall, I give it thumbs up. I see some interesting things in TLJ. My first impression of how Luke is portrayed was completely negative, but after some consideration, and arguments I read from others, I'm almost 180º toward positive. I'm still bothered about his end. But it remains to be seen how that will be used in IX. My opinion of the rest of the film isn't so much negative as just blah.

"Obviously, that story does not explain Kylo's fall. That event must have happened after Snoke had reached Kylo and Kylo had fallen." I saw it like there was darkness growing within Ben but he was still on the edge between staying with Luke or joining Snoke. Once he saw Luke standing over his bed, that was when he made his choice and joined Snoke. " I know there's a big Reylo fanbase out there, but this is just the director's typical ambiguity." I wasn't even a Reylo and I still hope that the trilogy does not end in a relationship between the two. But the scene where Kylo Ren is shirtless and Rey gets uncomfortable and asks him to put a shirt on, as well as their growing intimacy with one another, and finally having Ben say "please" when he's asking her to join him.....I took this to mean that there would have been romance if they had chosen each other then and there. It's not my desire to see them kiss in a happy ending at the end of the trilogy. I'm just acknowledging the romance was building at a certain point. "But, at the end, after Snoke is dead (or is he? ambiguity), they have another connection. So, what is the source of the connection? " This might be explained more when the novelization comes out. The Star Wars Explained channel (which is the only other channel worth listening to besides Jenny that I've found) thinks that Ben mentally reached out to Rey in that moment. I just think that there were lingering effects from the force bond that were dwindling away.

Yeah, I guess I just don't quite get that. I like the movies and enjoy watching them and while I have my own opinions of what I saw and the plot points that were presented, if I didn't like what I saw, I probably would just...I dunno... go watch something else? Maybe I'm just jealous of the people who have so much time to dedicate to hating on a movie. :P

Kylo is a young man, who wants Rey to rule by his side. I think it's pretty clear what he wants their relationship to be.

Fans had expectations regarding the mysteries of the film and were upset that their fan theories were wrong. Fans also are picking the film apart so much that if the same level of criticism were applied to the original trilogy, they wouldn't like those movies either. You gotta ignore the noise to stay sane as a Star Wars fan. :)

Although I grew up with the original Star Wars (I was 7 in 1977) and have followed it all my life, I consider myself more of a casual fan that doesn't take the movies too seriously. That being said, I walked out of Last Jedi thinking "Wow! What a fun movie all around!" There was some stuff I loved, some stuff I thought was just "ok" but overall really enjoyed it. I was SHOCKED when I saw so many people going batshit crazy into hating it. I don't get it. Put me in the camp of liking all the Star Wars movies Disney has put out so far and looking forward to more. I have a feeling I'm going to very much like the full version of this video! :)

Theme Park Review

[Sandor Clegane, as portrayed by Rory McCann, is a great character.] Re why he fell: 1st we get Luke's; 2nd Kylo's; 3rd Luke's revision. But none of them can be complete. Luke thought about killing Kylo because he sensed the darkness within him. Kylo, awakening, immediately felt threatened by Luke. That is not reasonable if Kylo had no pre-existing reason to fear Luke. To the contrary, we would expect Kylo to think his master was testing him. And Snoke isn't in that story. Obviously, that story does not explain Kylo's fall. That event must have happened after Snoke had reached Kylo and Kylo had fallen. More importantly, it's typical of the director's love affair with ambiguity that he mistakes for depth. Re romantic interest: I know there's a big Reylo fanbase out there, but this is just the director's typical ambiguity. Smoke says he created the connection. But, at the end, after Snoke is dead (or is he? ambiguity), they have another connection. So, what is the source of the connection? I don't see any real romantic possibility. Re good in Kylo: Again, I think that's the director's ambiguity. Sure. Anyone, no matter how evil, can have good in him. I don't see that as being a plot point. ESB created a clear unambiguous necessity for Luke to find good in Vader. Even if Rey senses good in Kylo, what's her motivation? possible romance? Seriously? Re Rey slaughtering Kylo: I agree that isn't going to happen. Rey's story is clearly about finding balance in the Force. We have hints about that. Lor San Tekka said, "There can be no balance in the Force without the Jedi." And Rey sees light, darkness, and balance. I don't think we've ever had any other SW character see balance. And there's the more remote hint from the prequels. But it's certainly possible that Rey won't be a Jedi. She may pass along the Jedi stuff to others. That balance requires Jedi doesn't mean that someone who finds the balance or brings it about must be Jedi. But there's no more motivation for Rey to kill Kylo than there is for her to redeem him. She may have to defeat him. Perhaps trap or imprison him somewhere or some other way incapacitate him. And I don't see that Kylo has any understanding of Rey. If what he says about her parents is true, then her parents are meaningless as far as the story goes. If not, then what does Kylo understand about her? She's a powerful Force user who isn't coming over to the dark side to join him. I must say, I am confused about the scene where Kylo awakens to find Hux thinking about killing him. Rey has escaped. How? If she overpowered Kylo, then obviously she isn't intent on killing him, because she didn't when she had the opportunity. Did Kylo just go to sleep on the floor when Rey left? What did happen? Oh. It's ambiguous. How deep.

The relationship between Kylo and Rey has changed. Before, Rey felt nothing but anger at him. He was the enemy in a black mask. In TLJ, she got to know him and his side of things. She has a better understanding of why he fell, she got a glimpse of good in him, and there was even a hint of growing romantic interest between the 2. Even though Rey "closed the door" on Ben, I still think this is not a strict battle between "good vs. evil" with the way the two characters have an understanding for each other now. This story is not just gonna end with Rey slaughtering the last child of the Skywalker/Solo family and going home to celebrate.

Or should I say Ren-dition

Blue Corn

"Mean Jedi prep school kid" is now my favorite rendition of Kylo Ren.

Blue Corn

For this trilogy, I could do without a Snoke backstory. If one does come about in a future book, series, or unnecessary standalone film, then I’m all in for that. The way I saw it, Snoke maybe had very little respect for Kylo Ren. I just wouldn’t say none at all. I think he was just a cranky old dude who was ready for Kylo Ren to carry out his vision. I feel like he knew exactly what was coming when he said “Point it at your true enemy.” That was his way of being like, “Alright, I’ve been sitting in this chair forever and this dude seems ready to take charge. I’ll coax him into killing me so he’ll feel like a big boy. The galaxy will be all, ‘Wait, Kylo Ren did WHAT NOW!? I guess he means business.’ He’ll finish what I started. Then, hooray! First Order party!” Put slightly more eloquently though.

Sam Cohn

Interesting. I have no issue with Finn/Rose other than their kiss feeling forced. No pun intended. I dug Negan at his introduction in the season 6 finale/season 7 premier. However, that feeling has since dwindled as his arc on their series continued. We get it. He’s a dick but sometimes cracks a joke. That charm wears off quickly and his bizarre moral compass doesn’t help undo that. That said, I’m totally on board for Supreme Leader Kylo Ren.

Sam Cohn

I'm a casual fan who really liked TLJ, even the Finn/Rose thing which turned into a shaggy dog story. More of their interaction, rather than that rich planet. I think with Snoke I would have liked to have seen his backstory, simply because I'm still not sure how the first order came about. Maybe it's in a secondary media somewhere? I just watch the films, so it's never been explained. But other than explaining why the First Order exists there is no need for Snoke to be anyone or anything. I view this second trilogy similar to the Crisis of the Third Century of the Roman Empire where like emperors like Pupienus came into power after the previous emperor ruled for 21 days, and then 3 months later he was assassinated, Balbinus takes over and he only lasts three months too. There's this big bad empire still ruling a large, er, empire, but inside it is a vacuum of powerful men betraying each other. Snoke didn't have much personality, though I did enjoy the fact he was another mentor figure who had no respect for Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren is at least interesting. He's a wildcard and whether he redeems himself or goes fully to the dark side you know that his story simply cannot end without heartache.

How do you feel about Negan from The Walking Dead

Jenny Nicholson

I talk about the Finn/Rose subplot at large but am not particularly in favor of Canto Bight

Jenny Nicholson

And in case you read that, I didn’t like Rogue One.

Sam Cohn

Solid points so far. Looking forward to the full video. I’m still on the fence about whether I liked TLJ or not and need to see it a second time. I hope you talked about the Canto Bight scenes and DJ. I haven’t heard anyone make a convincing argument for them yet and I feel like that’s where my biggest issues were.
