SPOILER Last Jedi Video

Hey guys, as requested I'm reposting this as patrons-only. I'll make it live sometime this evening before I go into my screening.

Would also appreciate if you guys let me know if this upload was like, flawed! Haha. I hastily deleted the last upload and reuploaded before I had to run out the door. So in theory this should be identical to the last upload, just a new url! But I haven't technically given it my usual safety-watch to check for upload glitches.

SPOILER Last Jedi Video

Comments

*Setbacks* are interesting. An uninterrupted series of failures makes for a shitty movie (this one is a perfect example).

Brandon Blackmoor

"Failure uninteresting and unhelpful teacher, it is" ~Something Yoda didn't say

Brendan DeFrancisco

Jenny has immersed herself so deep in the Star Wars that she's more Star War now than woman. Twisted and precognitive.

Shaun Cheah

They succeeded at Not Dying and I think that's worth something. I need it to be, actually, because if it isn't then my life has more-or-less been a complete failure, too.

Shaun Cheah

Yeah, I found this one genuinely upsetting the first time through (a lot of the humor failed to land for me though) - especially because I read the porg that stayed longer as the child, and immediately connected it to the Ewok going "mama...mama..." in Jedi. Like a lot of the flat jokes, it was w/e the second time though, but I did notice that he had /two/ porgs rotisseried like that

Samuel Roberts

Also, I am puzzled at how you predicted Rose Teacup and the alien horse race. Did I miss something in the previous movies that introduced these elements? How on earth did you predict them?

Brandon Blackmoor

I accept that opinions vary. I can conceive the possibility that someone else might find this movie enjoyable, even though I personally thought it was three short, dull, stupid movies shuffled together to make one long, even duller movie. I can grasp that possibility. But to think it an exceptionally *good* movie? One of the *best* Star Wars movies? To sit through slapstick pratfalls, endless stultifying exposition, pod racing -- I mean space horse racing, stuttering Benicio Del Toro, Super Leia flying through space (I was stifling laughter during that, that was so amazingly stupid), space hamsters, a completely unnecessary and pointless Laura Dern subplot, the Slowest Spaceship Chase In The Universe, the fact that everything the good guys tried during the movie failed... every. single. thing. -- they succeeded at *nothing* ... and then to consider this a high point of the film series? Perhaps even #2 behind the original "Star Wars" (1977)? I accept it: I am not saying anyone is wrong or their opinion is invalid. But it baffles me. For what it's worth, I thought "Star Wars 7: Episode 7: The Force Awakens" (2015) was great fun, but I did not like "Star Wars 8: Rogue One" (2016).

Brandon Blackmoor

For me, the fact that he said that to Carrie Fisher really set off the waterworks.

Sam

Finally got a chance to see it! It gave me more than a few canon and action-movie character laughs. And yes, that whole time with the ship striking the other ship in such a manner had my adrenaline flowing. They did it just right. I want to play it on a better sound system than my theater apparently had. Good, true assessment!

Dundough Breadbox

I finally got to see and I've no idea what the complaints about. That's the Star Wars I grew up loving. Random thoughts - I loved Chewie getting to pilot the Falcon on his own. And getting to hug Leia at last. - The Porgs were great, though I could have done without the cooked ones. So were the foxes. Neither outstayed their welcome. - The humour didn't put me off. To some extent that's always been a part of Star Wars. You might quibble about where it's appropriate but I didn't. - The four main returning characters remained as likeable and interesting as before, and exactly what was missing from the prequels. And Poe got to do more this time. - or rather the main five, because BB-8 is as much a character as any of them. - Rose Tico was brilliant. Funny and touching. - BB-9E reminded me of Vincent and BOB from the Star Wars knock-off The Black Hole. - real Yoda was back. I don't agree with RLM that his eccentricity was all an act. He did play it up to test Luke when they first met but he was always an oddball. And damn it, when he said he'd missed Luke... - Likewise the reunions of Luke and Chewie, and Luke and R2, and Luke and Leia, and Luke and Threepio were lovely. - But it does sadden me that we'll never see Luke, Leia and Han together again. - where's Lando? Luke's explanation of the reality of the Force and his doubts about the Jedi were beautifully done (as well as his ultimate acceptance of the usefulness of the Jedi). The Force is all life, though some might find it easier than others to tap into, as someone might be a better musician than someone else. - I thought they played Snoke's part very well. I'm sure they'll expand on his role elsewhere but we didn't need to know any more. We just needed to know that there was more to know. His throne room was beautiful. - likewise Rey's parentage. - one minor criticism is that I think (unless I missed something) that Laura Dern could have let Poe and Billie Lourd and the amphibian guy know that there was something more to her plan. I enjoyed seeing Billie Lourd more. - But most of all that was Luke Skywalker. It really was. I had concerns about where they'd take him but, no, it all fitted. It was Luke, my first fantasy hero, whose toy my parents gave me when we were emigrating. It was wonderful.

Stuart Payne

I'm currently rewatching the Office so I bust up laughing reading this comment. Hux is totally the Dwight of the SW universe!

I really hope that at some point in Episode IX, Hux refers to himself as Assistant Supreme Leader, and Kylo Ren interjects with "Assistant TO THE Supreme Leader".

Sam

Personally I think his redemption is still inevitable. For one, what kind of ending is it if this poor kid (even if he's a piece of shit and a monster) gets ganked after all the development he's gotten? For another, there was Luke's line: "No one's ever really gone." Sure, it was probably about Luke himself, but I think it had to be about Ben too.

John Conklin

I want Jenny's thoughts on whether redemption for Kylo is still possible at this point. I've read a lot of stuff written by people that seem to read this movie as proof of him being irredeemably evil and a horrible manipulative person, but that wasn't how I read it? Like I'm definitely not in the camp of "Poor Ben Solo was neglected as a child so nothing he does is his fault", but I felt like with the flashbacks we can understand why he's making the choices he is even though we don't agree with them and that he's meant to be seen as a sympathetic character. I felt like there were lots of hints that there's still hope for him: Luke telling Leia that no one is ever really gone, Kylo finding the dice and not just throwing them across the bunker, the fact that he didn't kill Leia, etc. But I feel like I'm a crazy person because everything I read (except stuff written by hardcore Reylos) is talking about how epic it'll be when Rey finally slices his head off. Am I the only one who thinks that ending would be profoundly unsatisfying?

Kate Gibson

JENNY WAS RIGHT. If you don't count the people who seem to hate ALL new Star Wars content, the people who hated TLJ will praise Rogue One. Pretty uncanny.

Ello Asty

I get that point of view and I agree that the prequels were mostly bad but they still make a big portion of the Star Wars story. I don't think they should be forgotten. I think that little pieces of the prequels should be introduced in a positive way (i.e. Luke mentioning Darth Sidious was a welcome addition to ep 8, IMO).

While I think you have the beginning of a good idea, I still maintain the position that prequel reminders are detrimental and should be avoided entirely if at all possible.

Shaun Cheah

One more thought...sorry, this is my only forum to geek out on Star Wars. The whole Yoda ghost scene. I enjoyed it even if Yoda looked a little weird at first, but it would have been so much better if they had brought back Hayden Christensen back to play Anakin as a ghost. It could have served as a reminder to Luke that its never too late and he can still be the hero even when things seem so dark. I wonder if they did approach him at all. I still find the whole ghost thing confusing throughout all of the movies though. I would really like some clarification on how all that is supposed to work.

I like to think that it fell into the fire and he tried to rescue it with a skewer

Daniel Staniforth

It was worse than that, he killed it, cooked it, and then didn't eat it. At least I don't think there was a scene of him actually eating it.

JK

What are your thoughts on Chewbacca eating a porg while others watched in horror and cried?

Peter Marez

Does the Gareth Edwards cameo count as a Rogue One shoutout? And I guess there was brief allusion to an ugly dangerous sea monster just off the island?

Carver 秋照 Oblander

I... what?

Shaun Cheah

Benicio's character was my favourite Star Wars character because he's who I imagine I'd be in that universe: entirely self-serving and quite awful unless paid well enough to not be. He's too competent to be a perfect fit, but I guess that's why it's a fantasy. Also he's not evil; he gives the necklace thing back. He's just pragmatic and... Wait, is he Lando?

Shaun Cheah

I eagerly anticipate what Rule 34 is going to do with that moment.

Shaun Cheah

He was a darksider. But he was never a Sith. He's just there to serve Kylo's story like the Emperor served Vader's story in the OT.

Blue Corn

Hi there. I'm with the Lucasfilm Story Group. #didyouknow Luke Skywalker is a book burning Nazi! Luke Skywalker destroys religious heritage sites as if he were a member of ISIS! Luke Skywalker used his force iPhone to Facetime his final battle against a dark side force user! (or not a dark side force user... or whatever! Labels suck!) EVERYONE is a Jedi!!!! ... just "be yourself" and let go of the past! How do you let go of the past....? Well I hope it wasn't in those books Nazi Luke Skywalker burned!

Bill Holt

Finished the movie and the video. I have thoughts. OBVIOUS SPOILERS BELOW!! For those interested, here is my order of the movies: 5>6>4>8>7>3>1>2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>R1 I really did like 8, but here are some thoughts: Admiral Akbar: Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Damn you Rian Johnson. Leia space thing: That was weird. How does the Force save her from the vacuum of space!? Hux: Became a caricature of his character from 7, but I actually really liked it. R2-D2 & C3PO: Might as well have blown them up! They did nothing! Disappointing Chewbacca: See R2-D2 & C3PO above BB-8: Liked (him, her, it?) even more than I did from 7…but yeah, totally murdered those dudes. BB-9E: Really wanted more with this droid. Poe, Rey, Luke, & Kylo, Finn: Loved every second of screen time with them. Handled all of these characters great! Rose Tico: Favorite new character! Captain Phasma: They really didn’t know what to do with her character at all in either movie. Pacing: Agree with Jenny, pacing was weird. Canto bight: A bit extraneous and slowed down the movie. Meh Benicio: What happened to him?? Character was a bit pointless and didn’t get resolved. Justin Theroux: I would rather have seen much more of him than Benicio (BTW: Jenny, Did you know he was in ep 8 when you interviewed him for Ninjago?) Alien Milking: Weird Shirtless Kylo: Weird...but glad that Rey said what the audience was thinking. I’m sure I will think of more later, but I really did enjoy the movie and can’t wait to see it again. Thanks for reading!

Any thoughts on the milk scene?

Trevor White

I really really struggle with the people saying that Luke's arc was wasted. I never expected them to get that much out of what could have been a boring, run-of-the-mill Jedi master, when they announced the new trilogy. What would you have prefered?

Markus Huppert

I thought the movie was only ok (3.5 out of 5). I didn't mind the length, what I minded was all the waste. They spent a movie+ building up characters like Snoke and Plasma just to throw them away. Luke's personal arc through the entire franchise now seems wasted as well or at least underwhelming. Finn ends up trading places with Rose (who was great) in a coma at the end has an entirely wasted plot line. Po I guess magically transforms from hero to leader in a half dozen scenes doesn't feel earned. Also the space Leia scene feels so weird. Also how could it even be plausible that all it took was light speeding into a ship (or in this case a dozen) to destroy it. I mean their science is supposed to be advanced and this seems like a pretty basic thing to know. Why didn't they try this a dozen or so times before with like death stars or super star destroyers? Also while the addition of comedy worked in Thor and could have been ok here, I felt it was overused and by people who never had that attitude before. Don't get me wrong there is a lot to like Rey, BB8, Rose but I wish they did more with what they had.

Neal Cooper

I like that you're performing stunts now. You should open each video with a pratfall, like Chevy Chase on the early SNL episodes.

Patrick Zartman

Break your mind 20 years all alone in the swamp will.

Justin Alexander

I haven’t seen the film but I get a splendid Isaac Hayes vibe from the stills.

Stuart Payne

I guarantee nothing lol

sushigirlali

I don't recall the scene y'all are referring to but I'm looking forward to finding out in a rewatch. =D

Shaun Cheah

If I offered you a warm welcome, would you vote for my suggestion when the time comes? I believe this is how politics work.

Shaun Cheah

Did anyone else get a weird Hugh Hefner vibe from Snoke's gold robe?

JK

I think it's fair to talk about it under a spoiler video. I haven't seen it yet but I'm watching and reading everything anyway (the friend I want to see it with is sick and I don't know when she'll be well enough to go and see it. I don't want to miss out on all the fuss, though. I already have strong opinions).

Stuart Payne

The Hux part was amazing. He played it off so casually

Jenny Nicholson

I didn't know who you meant by "two" people tried to kill him. Until I saw that scene again and realized what Hux was doing, and I lmao in the theater.

Blue Corn

The video was fine. No issues. I want to tackle about it, but I want to be nice to the people who haven’t seen it yet.

Bill Lehecka

Finally became a patron because of this video. Thanks for always being authentic and hilarious <3

sushigirlali

this Video is unavailable. that link is dead use this one: https://youtu.be/X9QiHlEC22U It's now working.

Thanks! Seeing it in an hour then excited to watch this!

Leesah

Thank you for the reupload/ repost :)

Markus Huppert

Awesome! Thanks Jenny! Gonna watch on Saturday.

Thanks.
