Really good discography from start to Tromp le Monde though. Very interested to see what you think about Closer. Definitely a heavy album.

Pixies are another group I always knew but didn’t start listening to until 2020 so they’re always going to be a pandemic band to me. Surfer Rosa’s a great listen and I can definitely see why it’s on the list - I’m a little surprised it’s not higher on the list but maybe they’ll pop up again??? For something a little different, I recommend the Argentinian Pixies tribute album from a few years ago, I think it’s more enjoyable than the tribute album with a bunch of 90s alternative rock acts. It’s cool that both Kim Deal and the Pixies have albums coming out this fall and I’ve got ‘em both pre-saved! Not sure if this is what Garrett was thinking of but “Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)” is a g r e a t song by Icicle Works. Kind of jangle pop-y!

2024-08-30 05:35:40 +0000 UTCI agree with Eric so hard that nothing is cooler than when Sting comes out to Seek and Destroy lmao, it always pops me. Love the group dynamic on this one. This album has a few standouts for me like Where Is My Mind and Bone Machine but the rest doesn’t really stand out to me too much. Still enjoyed it overall though. 3/5

2024-08-29 17:25:54 +0000 UTCFantastic album — I always liked the pixies, but I never dove deep into their discography until my dad took my brother and I to go see them live sometime in 2018 (I was in 11th grade). I think their gnarlier, more abrasive songs are kind of an acquired taste compared to their poppier stuff, but the juxtaposition of all of that together is what makes them so great!! They were surprisingly fantastic live too for how old they are, black Francis was still screaming and they opened with Gouge Away which was a fuckin rad way to start a set.
