Funimation/Crunchyroll almost always take a break on the dub when the sub does to keep the same weekly pace. Sometimes they will delay and do it at the same time in the series, so the delay might not be for 2 weeks, but it will probably happen.

I think the VA work in general is better, but much moreso the pronunciation and tone. The way this dub pronounces Sverkel is painful to me. Between stuff like that and the less tonally immersive script choices, I just think the other dub is a more professional and complete experience.

2026-02-13 01:58:00 +0000 UTCI agree with Kenny in that having Thorfinn and Lief's reunion HERE works better than in the last episode for the sake of preserving tone. Episode 18 was NOT about making the audience feel good. 😓 On an unrelated note, turns out Lief is voiced by All For One in the other English dub of Vinland Saga!

The fact he stays to fight, not because he agrees with or even likes Ketil or that he thinks they can win, but simply out of loyalty to pay back the hospitality he's been given is RIDICULOUSLY commendable. Same goes for his men. They're not anywhere near as noble as Snake, but them choosing to stay in spite of their fear is a good moment.

This episode starts right after a speech from Kettil that for some reason wasnt included in the episodes but instead uploaded to Mappa's youtube channel inbetween episode drops. It's about 1min40sec and can be found on YouTube if you search Vinland Saga 18.5 or Vinland Saga "Same old story". I think there might be one more scene like it but I can't remember at what point. Edit: apparently the other inbetween scene that was youtube only was inbetween episodes 6 and 7 of season 2 and its about Thorfins dreams before we have the episode that deep dives into his dreams. It's called episode 6.5 "Drowning in the Shadow".
