Tier 3+ - Accidental Champion (Book 2) - Chapter 52 - The System Is Watching

Xavier went for the man’s neck.

The Lord of the Endless Horde lay upon a ground of rubble. It wasn’t just the metal and glass of these strange skyscrapers, stone and wood and dust and splinters had poured out of the innards when the building had fallen.

The D Grade Denizen had been weakened. Once, he had been the most powerful being in the entire sector. Now, all three of his cores had burned right through, then his health had come next.

Still, Xavier hadn’t known if he would be strong enough to kill the bastard—didn’t know if the Lord would be able to come back from what he’d done to him. A feat he hadn’t thought possible.

I dropped a building on top of him.

Thunk went his broken scythe-staff as the blade dug into the Lord of the endless Horde’s skin.

Physical Damage has reached Rank 51!

Physical Damage has reached Rank 55!

I took control of his mind.

Thunk!

Physical Damage has reached Rank 58!

I made him burn his own body.

Thunk!

Physical Damage has reached Rank 62!

I made him fall from the sky.

Thunk!

Physical Damage has reached Rank 65!

I made him beg for my help!

Thunk!

Twenty swings it took. Twenty swings to kill and behead the most powerful being in the sector. A man who’d killed only for power. Only for dominance. Who invaded worlds on a whim.

Each strike had brought more ranks, the System still compensating in his favour even now. And thus each strike had more Strength behind it—had more damage behind it.

When the last strike fell, and the kill notification finally came, Physical Damage had reached Rank 70.

You have defeated a Level 201 Human Master of the Golden Sword!

No Mastery Points were shown for the kill.

Xavier’s energy left him. It drained from every one of his muscles and he collapsed to the ground. A sharp pain stabbed at his head. His entire body ached.

Your health is at 5%.

Xavier smiled, despite his weariness, despite his pain.

He was alive.

The notifications flooded into his vision. The first was one he’d been aching to see for so long.

In 1 minute, you and your party will be returned to the Staging Room.

Xavier couldn’t help but gawk at all of the notifications as he read them.

Power pulsed in him as one attribute after another broke through another threshold of power.

Intelligence, over three thousand.

Throom.

Speed, over three thousand.

Throom.

Strength, over three thousand.

Throom.

Toughness, over three thousand.

Throom.

Willpower rose over four thousand points.

Then finally Spirit. His strongest attribute of all. It rose higher than he’d ever expected it to.

Over five thousand points.

Throooooom.

He was practically radiating power. He hadn’t gained a single level from the man’s death—he wouldn’t gain any Mastery Points until he chose his next class. But god, was he strong.

He felt… Unmatched.

His combined stats must be massive, though he hadn’t received any titles for his stats since he’d reached one thousand in all of them—nothing for two thousand or three thousand. And nothing for his combined stats since one thousand.

Maybe the System only does that at the beginning?

But there wasn’t time to think on that. He’d read through the titles incredibly fast, but he still had less than a minute until the System booted him from this floor, sending him back to the Staging Area.

A part of him had wondered if he would somehow be able to bring Queen Alastea and her adviser back with them, but such a thing never seemed possible. And now, he wouldn’t even be able to see her again.

At least she’ll be free, now. The Endless Horde will no longer come after her, or her people.

Now their D Grade Lord had been defeated, he was sure remnants of the Endless Horde would return through the portals.

Xavier knelt down by the Lord of the Endless Horde. He looked at the man’s robes. At his slender sword and jade scabbard. The man wore other things, too, things Xavier hadn’t noticed at first. A golden bracelet on his left hand, an anklet on his right ankle, and six rings on his fingers.

Are they all Storage Rings, I wonder?

He grinned, and looted it all. The jewellery. The sword, scabbard. The martial arts robes. The Lord of the Endless Horde lay in the rubble in nothing but his underclothes, his head separated from his body. A once powerful man, fallen from his heights.

Xavier stood, closed his eyes, and basked in the sunlight falling upon him through the tall buildings.

It was finally time for him to return to the Tower of Champions. There were many things he needed to discover. One of those titles had granted him something called a Unique Spell named Core Burn, another a System Boon—whatever that was—called Usurper.

All of the titles he’d received were… amazing. But the unmatched titles did make him narrow his eyes and wonder, yet again, what it meant by the System is watching.

Not for the first time, Xavier felt a presence watching him. Or, was it two presences? Powerful presences that he’d felt before. He picked them out easily—the most powerful one, the one that made him feel like a speck of dust… it had observed him at the end of the last floor.

Here it was again.

Not the System.

The other was weaker, but by no means weak.

Again, neither of these presences was the System watching him. He was sure of it. But those titles proved he was being watched by it.

The most powerful entity in the Greater Universe has its eye on me. I suppose I’ll have to make my life a story worth watching.

Xavier smiled as he felt the pull of the System taking him away from this place. When he’d entered this floor, he hadn’t known how long he would spend on it. Hadn’t known how powerful he would grow. Hadn’t known he would—even could—achieve the impossible.

Yet he’d done it.

Soon, he would burn through the next five floors and finally return to Earth.

And nothing would be able to stop him from keeping it safe.

Comments

He can't gain Mastery Points until he chooses his class, so no levels.

Levels?

Zagig

I wonder if the queen would be an “NPC” in the waiting lobby. Or they could use the key to gate get and the advisor to the lobby.
