2026-01-22 00:38:53 +0000 UTCIt's super sad, but Gardar's death was kinda set in stone the moment we saw him. Think back to episode 13 opening up to Gardar's escape. He pulled a KNIFE out of his gut before leaving to find his wife. Gardar was running on borrowed time the entire time we knew him. 😥

In reality the ones who pay the highest price are almost always those with the least involvement in the conflict… the innocent bystanders whose lives were casually torn apart for profit, conquest, or pride.

2026-01-21 22:59:49 +0000 UTCPoor garder man, I don’t think snake actually killed him, he just accelerated it, I think the wounds he suffered in his escape were already fatal. Arnheid patched him up but he already lost so much blood, he was already knocked out for most of the day, stone cold to the touch like thorfinn said, with such shallow breathing snake didn’t realize he was just under the bed a few feet away. His chokehold and wagon ride were just the last burst of energy of a dead man :(

He didn’t overpower snake or get overpowered. If he overpowered snake that could incline thorfinn to more readily choose violence even non lethal violence. It could start the line of logic “ I don’t want to carry any more fallen souls, so even if I’m fighting as long as I don’t kill, it’s okay for my conscience” I’m sure thorfinns stance would be more nuanced but it could boil down to this. Then if he got overpowered, that could send thorfinn spiraling, he could think along the lines of “I broke my vow of violence and did everything in my power to help and still failed, what’s the point of fighting” he could go back to a similar state as the start of the season. Totally passive, sticking too his vow no matter what, no matter what happens to the people around him or too himself.

2026-01-21 22:22:07 +0000 UTCI’m sure snake would’ve fought differently if thorfinn did have have daggers but it’s kinda neat a lot of thorfinn near misses would’ve been brutal slashes if he had his daggers in the iconic reverse grip. So since thorfinn is allowing himself to slip back into that fighting stance, I wonder if subconsciously he was aiming his punch’s as if he had his daggers. If you had daggers you rarely would want to punch someone in the face so you slash slightly off center

Although not confirmed, it’s probable that he was part of the Varangian guard, a special unit of warriors and Vikings imported to Constantinople from Scandinavia due to their fame as ferocious fighters and raiders. This unit served as the personal guard of the emperor, which at the time would have been Basil II, at the absolute peak of the Byzantine empire. This means that Snake likely was skilled enough to be HANDPICKED to protect the most powerful man in the world, and Thorfinn was still keeping pace, unarmed, and with years of rust.
