2025-08-07 04:33:48 +0000 UTCI've always read it as "Fae Realm."
HBelmont 24
2025-08-06 06:29:21 +0000 UTCAlso to clarify the death in d&d aspect, Matt doesn't apply the rules as written. He homebrewed a system where revivify or the like is done as a ritual and the players have to succeed on at least 3 rolls. The dc starts of at 10 for the first death then adds 2 each time they die, each roll from the participants helps lower the dc but their dc is based off whether the offered something to the ritual. I may have misremembered how it works exactly but i know its not as easy as regular d&d

2025-08-06 02:15:55 +0000 UTCTBF Montana is right about Fey and Faeries, for the word Fey is interchangeable with Fae. So it can be the Fae Realm or Fey Realm. That being said we've seen how the realm itself pulls tricks on the group, making distant mountains become close rock piles that floated away for example. So the realm is full of tricks and tricksters. Also you're correct as well Kenny, in d&d there are dark fey in the Shadowfell, the antithesis of the Fey Wilds

2025-08-06 02:09:33 +0000 UTC22:22 Lmao Keyleth is famous for not turning into a bird when she really should. If you know, you know.

2025-08-05 16:10:48 +0000 UTCObviously, not defending their dad, and I could be reaching about this whole thing, but the show CHOSE to zoom in on the pipe their dad has in the present, as well as depict the memory of Vex gifting him one.
HBelmont 24
2025-08-05 04:39:53 +0000 UTCSo, while the incel Archfey (forgot his name) was trying to manipulate Vex, he showed her a doctores memory of her father NOT rudely knocking aside the pipe she made for him as a kid, showing what could have been. Here's the thing, though: we see her dad smoking said pipe in the present at 11:36. I have two theories on this. One: Vex, or maybe even her dad, went back and fixed the pipe. Or two (the one I choose to believe): that cruel memory never happened, and the Archfey was just trying to make Vex feel even more unwanted. Not saying he was as welcoming about it as she was hypothetically shown, but maybe he just waved her off, but still kept the gift.

2025-08-05 04:37:32 +0000 UTCThis is one of my favorite episodes in Season 2. This was a great episode for Vex, both in her backstory and the trial she had to overcome to get the Fenthras Bow. Keyleth also had an excellent moment in this show on her way to becoming her more confident self. The ladies stepped it up in an episode where the main villain is basically an incel. That archery battle was excellent.

2025-08-04 23:19:22 +0000 UTCI've heard of the terms Seelie and Unseelie before. So it might be terms that were originally based on mythology. Faeries (the Fey) are largely based on Celtic, Slavic, Germanic, French and English mythology. Much of the lore of faeries in D&D is based on old folklore. Seelie, of course, are the "good guys", the sylphs, pixies, dryads, nymphs, etc and the Unseelie are the "bad guys", like the redcaps. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent to Saundor in places like the Monster Manual, so I'm assuming he's an original creation for Critical Role.

2025-08-04 23:04:04 +0000 UTCInside combat its still bot a auto success. That said, the success rate in bringing back characters is extremely high

2025-08-04 20:52:38 +0000 UTC37:00 - Yes he is an Arch FEY, no class (not Fiend, that's different). Garmelie calls him a cursed Archfey too. CONTEXT - In Matt Mercers version of the Feywild(realm) there are two Royal Courts ruling over the entire realm. The Seelie and the Unseelie. If one is the sunrise the other is the sunset so to speak. The Seelie reside in the Burning Vale, the Unseelie in the Sun's Shadow. Very light vs dark themed. The Unseelie literally have a place called the Twilight Citadel for example. That said they're all kinda chaotic and mischievous, that seems to be the default in the Fey Realm.

2025-08-04 20:38:13 +0000 UTCOne really cute detail - Vex picks up Percy's arrowhead first and then the legendary bow. She has her priorities.

HBelmont 24
2025-08-04 19:42:25 +0000 UTCyeah a lot of this comes from various mythologies and Tolkien and others codification of them over time... like in norse mythology elves, dwarves and dark elves would all be considered fairies

2025-08-04 18:34:49 +0000 UTCThe way Keyleth beat the tree monsters is one of my favorite PC moves, turning in to a fire elemental and using teleport via plant to set both trees on fire is amazing.
Goliver the weird Droid
2025-08-04 17:08:30 +0000 UTCRemember that death doesn’t work the same in Matt’s world as it does in DnD. Matt does not let revivify work automatically unless it’s during combat. Outside of combat it is not a guaranteed success and relies on a series of rolls, characters can die even with a party member that can cast revivify.

2025-08-04 16:28:50 +0000 UTCKeyleth turning back into a fire elemental and using the treeleportation spell to beat the tree monsters was freaking sick! Great way to show her utilize the skills she's learned up to this point.

2025-08-04 15:52:07 +0000 UTCI missed that too. But I stand by that, in this scenario at least, he was a Plant or Elemental figure that any Druid could defeat. That said, from what you described Archfeys could turn into any being that suits the situation. Bare in mind I really have no idea what "Archfey" is, Ive never heard of them until reading your comment😅

2025-08-04 14:39:53 +0000 UTCI feel like Grog's is the backstory they've been looking forward to the most. 😅 He was primarily a supporting character all of last season, with the most we got from any established history being his relationship with Pike. Now, we get to build on that, and that sting at the end of his death by his uncle's hand is a GREAT cliffhanger for it.
HBelmont 24
2025-08-04 14:28:02 +0000 UTCI think you misheard what Syldor was. He isnt a archfiend, he is an archfey. The archfey are powerful fey creatures that tend to be more chaotic neutral although there are good and evil fey with the seelie and unseelie courts but even then the seelie are less good and more just not evil.

2025-08-04 14:14:27 +0000 UTCBunch of shippers, the lot of them 😅 Tho, I'm still kinda confused about the title. Like, when did she recieve that? Before they left Whitestone for Emon last season?

2025-08-04 14:03:13 +0000 UTCVex and Vax's step mom Devana sounds like Mel from Arcane. Remember, their actual mom was killed by a dragon.

2025-08-04 14:01:37 +0000 UTCLike Kenny said, yes most Enemies dont usually have a "Class" Classes are really just for the players to follow and not always applied to NPC's. I use several Human like NPC's that just do things that dont follow a class, or even present as a Fighter but then have abilities of a Monk. So multiclassing without restrictions that players would. (Usually late game stuff so my players can handle it)

2025-08-04 14:00:26 +0000 UTCThe "Lady Vexhalia" moment was so iconic in the campaign. That episode was done in front of a live audience and when Taliesin (Percy) said that exact line the crowd went wild

2025-08-04 13:54:32 +0000 UTCI forgot how endearing of a character Pike's Pop Pop was. ☺️ I feel like his wholesome reunion was meant to dicotomize with Vex and Vax's not so wholesome reunion with their dad. As for his VA, personally I remember Henry Winkler as Adam Sandler's Dad from Click. Great movie. 👌🏼

2025-08-04 13:53:38 +0000 UTCThis isnt spelled out in the show but you're right on an affair type thing. Its unclear if he was married at the time but he had a diplomatic mission in their old town where he had a tyrst with their mom. He left before they were born and didnt know they existed. Once he got word when they were about 10 years old he sent for them to come live with him in his city. Out of duty for what a noble is expected to do, take care of their kids and send them to proper education and all that bs. Not out of caring and made kt clear he thinks less of them due to them being half elves. Yes hes literally the reason they are. Hes a bad father. So they ran away from him to go back to mom. But the village was no longer there. This is a rough summery of the game and it is unclear how accurate it is to the show but some of it is. Matt really hates playing the npc. All bad father's are his least favorite to try to embody

2025-08-04 13:35:01 +0000 UTC"Fey" and "fairy" can be interchangeable. They are basically both translations of the same word for mythical creature. That said, "fey" tends to mean anything to do with the fey or fairy realm which is from Irish and other myths and "fairy" tends to menace tiny wing fey in modern day English. But it isnt unusual at all for fairy to be used for all fey cresture and etymology wisdom its correct. Common fey creatures in myths tends to be fairies, pixies, leprechaun, goblins, hags, and tricksters. In dnd elves tend tk come from the feywild and plenty of other fey creatures exists. In traditional Irish myths fey just tends to be the strange creatures that exist outside the boarders of society and feywild or fey realm is everything else. Also a kot of stuff abiut modern day fey comes from a midsummer night dream with Shakespeare
