Tbh, throwing knives in general are kind of a crap weapon irl. I can't imagine anyone actually hunting a rabbit with it. My mom used to keep rabbits, they're fast asf. Throwing daggers are all around pretty bad, but they became a mainstay in fantasy so it kinda just stuck. In history it was mainly darts and javelins when it comes to throwing weapons and in some rarer cases specific axe types (the francisca). You don't really see darts ever used as weapons in media, but especially the Romans made great use of them (plumbata)

2025-05-28 15:32:41 +0000 UTCCan't overstate how much I love this show. The way they highlight the terrors of wars and raids, how innocent people gets caught in the middle and there we have Thorfinn barely 5 or 6 years old witnessing everything. Once he thought all of this was cool back in the days just to realize the horrors. The mangaka Makoto Yukimura is a genius. btw I believe the reason Thorfinn didn't kill Askeladd was because of honor, he doesn't want to be coward that kills someone in their sleep I think.

2025-05-28 09:59:07 +0000 UTCActually you can notice that when Askelad is serious about a promise he makes his promise not on Odin but on somoene else, "Arthur" or something of that sort. It's the name he used to swear the second time when he said that Thors was the winner in the last episode.

2025-05-22 03:39:33 +0000 UTCIt's honestly really sad to see Thorfinn so consumed with getting revenge that at no point did he consider going back home to Ylva and Helga. Not that he could get back to Iceland on his own, but still.

2025-05-22 00:48:07 +0000 UTCI looked it up, and the rune on Thors' dagger that Thorfinn kept is tiwaz, the rune for Tyr, the Norse god of war.

2025-05-21 18:07:41 +0000 UTCIn terms of the discussion about “shots” @4:20: Generally in animation these will be referred to as ‘cuts’ or any continuous animation up to a change of scene or shot. You will also hear sequence used to speak about a sequential set of cuts. It’s a weird term considering traditionally a cut IS the actual change of scene, not the content before or after but modern production workflows have moved to building scenes piece by piece with multiple artists working on individual pieces of that scene in parallel. As a result they’ve adopted the term ‘cut’ as in, “I’m assigned 5 cuts from this episode.” Source: I work in video game development and animation

2025-05-21 17:27:48 +0000 UTCFun fact: Askeladd has the same VA as Tetsutetsu Testutetsu from Class 1-B of My Hero Academia. Edit: Never mind, that's the Sentai dub. In the Netflix dub, he's voiced by Tanjiro's dad.

2025-05-21 14:18:47 +0000 UTCSome questions you guys had made me curious and sent me down a little rabbit hole. Of course I am no expert but it seems like Erik was telling the truth, when they made it to Vinland (North America) they did have peace trading with the natives! Sadly it didn’t last as the communication barrier lead to many perceived slights against one another. Then the berserker mushroom, it could have been used for the purpose it is in the show and red and white dotted mushroom was in that area that caused hallucinogenic and pain numbing effects. But since the records we do have are closely tied to mythology of the Norse, so it would be like a warrior consumed the mushroom then did super human feats. Interesting, and love how the show handles it, in nice blend of reality and fiction
