Enjoy! Next ep Monday!

To be fair, Demogorgons as seen in stranger things aren’t really a thing in official D&D. Demogorgon is just one entity and is a Demon Lord in the Layers of Abyss.

Eric Justice

Seeing your reaction to the tree was amazing

silentinfinity

Definitely check out the table to screen reaction for this scene. When it dawns on the group at the table what is being described, just chills.

Nick Scholz

If I remember right the wolfs were similar to Hell hounds in the campaign but due to a copyright reason from WOTC they could not use them in the show.

ELS_Art

Montana: We have ponies! How cute! Me having seen the show a dozen times over. : 🤭🤣

ELS_Art

I cant believe I'm ONCE AGAIN crying about LouLou... You're absolutely right though, Montana. Same mind games.

KT Bees

I think it would be so cool if you guys did a table-to-screen reaction video after each season. That way you can see the players actual reactions to some of the things Mercer threw at them, and also to see how they changed some things for the betterment of the show :)

Gabi R.

Just want to clarify there’s nothing inherently super weird with the twins, they just have issues lmao. This episode had a brief mention of their backstory during them picking up wood and Vax saying along the lines of “screw father, and that place, nearly broke us,” so there’s an indication that their past probably wasn’t great. Critical Role did a watch party Q&A when the episodes came out, and Laura Bailey (Vex’s player and VA) talks a bit about the twins’ relationship and that bit you guys were discussing. The thing is that twins are very close, and you will learn their backstory next season so no spoilers on that, but this scene is ment to showcase that Vex is terrified of being left behind, abandoned, that the most important person in her life would choose someone else over her, and those feelings fuel her actions here. That’s why she’s mean and bitchy to Keyleth. She’s trying to drive her away, so nothing can risk that. I figured I could mention all of that because it sums up what Laura said in the episode Q&A. I think you’ve seen that Vex is not exactly someone who is straightforward with her feelings, so it’s expressed in her actions by being mean to Keyleth and telling Vax to watch out. Things that aren’t directly spelling out the thing that she’s actually afraid of. The thing is though, Vax does see through this, which is why he says “nothing will ever come between us.”

Wolfarick

Hey welcome to the Hobby!!

Bradley Hall

Since Kenny is excited about tidbits from the fandom, when Vax was perusing Gilmores weapons for the wooden stake he says "Dagger, dagger, dagger..." which is what Liam would always say on his turn. He usually had the extra attack from his Boots of Haste and would just toss 3 daggers at a time, they would return magically to his "Blink Belt" as they would call it, aka a blinkback belt with up to 4 slots for thrown weapons. During the game he even loaded up the slots with 3 wooden stakes and his Keen Knife, but regretted it when he couldn't hurt a banshees incorporeal body

dannydarko27

Dam I didn't see this and commented nearly the same thing lol

dannydarko27

I saw a video of the scene at the end where in the campaign Matt is describing the reveal, and that was it. I was hooked. I went back and watched the whole campaign and started buying D&D books to learn how to play

dannydarko27

Vex and vax are just twins the line about nobody getting in between them is just because they've just been on their own their whole lives the sister just doesn't want any like third wheel getting in between them cuz it's just been them their whole lives taking care of each other it's nothing weird incestuous everything's been ruined because of game of thrones type s*** now it's just a weird stuff that comes to mind at first thought all because the game of thrones and the weird writing of a sibling Dynamics being incestuous

Dazani Szewcik

I feel you 🫤

HBelmont 24

Game of Thrones has forever ruined the general public's view of close twin/sibling relationships in fiction. Way too many people misread Vex and Vax's relationship. What, two people can't be close with one another without it being romantic anymore?

Taizen

Lmao you are not the only ones to get those lannister vibes from the twins, a lot of people do. They got that weird twin energy and I'm here for it, twins are always freaky in media.

TrixieTurner

I mean others have said it but ya the Vex and Vax relationship is 100% not meant to be incestuous at all lol a lot of people misread that line, which fair bc it does totally come off that way bc of how popular game of thrones was and when there's twins people always think about them lol but it's really not meant like that. Very much they only ever had each other and have only been able to make it so long because they had each other. So having a perfect duo and then a third coming in can really fuck with the dynamic, distract one which makes it so the other can rely on them as well/much etc. Esepcially in like a danergous medieval fanatady setting as they are in! It's very much overprotective sibling dynamics haha

AuroraZero_

100% and it was very much the same in the campaign too, I mean the players themselves got to write the characters so most of their relationships and interactions with each other is like 1 to 1 from the original campaign!

AuroraZero_

I think it's based off of an Etin? But I dont think it's like an actual creature lol

AuroraZero_

I know, right??

HBelmont 24

They’re still making hunger games books????

Raymond Hernandez

The “it’s us” moment in the campaign was INCREDIBLE! Gave me straight up chills, see them connect the dots. Y’all should do a table vs screen once you finish the 1st season so you see some of this moments in game, it’d be great if you could react to it

patricia jimjimcherie

If the goal was to torment each member of the group, then the little girl's death was even more pointless since Pike didn't even come to Whitestone.

Juan Solo

I donno if Kenny was serious about hearing all the easter eggs and such...but you have opened quite the door for us Critters haha its gonna be like the jokes about lord of the rings fans talking about every little fact (the toe breaking etc. lol) But speaking of which, that scene with the body doubles hanging, was SUCH AN INSANE MOMENT during the campaign!!! They always say that was the session that made dnd click for a lot of them, and realized oh shit, Matt isn't fucking around lol I would love to see a reaction to the "table to screen" videos where people will show key moments throughout the season back to back so you can see how it changed or exact it was haha

AuroraZero_

Those dogs were just some generic undead wolves I think. No monster manual version really exists. I think Deliah just cobbled together some dead animal parts with necromancy. Hence why wounds that will kill most animals don't stop them. They're dead.

Suplee215

This is where the IP issues come in. In game he had both mage hand and bigsby hand. They can't use the name Bigsby for copyright reason. They've combined the 2 spells into 1 spell too. Which honestly makes sense from a tv show view and even in game i can see flavoring your big hand as the same type of magic, just putting more magic into it.

Suplee215

The Spell Scanlan uses is not mage hand as that can only lift a max of 10lbs. I believe he's using, if not a moddified version of Bigby's hand. Mage hand is also only the size of your hand when you cast it.

TLKDesu

For the sake of morbid curiosity, does anyone know what creature from Scanlan's story was? 😬

HBelmont 24

Kenny also said something about seeing how the players were at the table during this scene compared to the show. I think a really cool idea, even if its just for Patreon, is to react to the compilation videos that compare the scenes in the show to what actually happened at the table. THOUGH I would wait until the end of the season for sure.

Cameron Dougherty

Tell me about it 😅

HBelmont 24

Once you realize Gilmore is voiced by Sunil Malhotra which is Prince Wu from Korra, you will not be able to unhear it hahaha

Cameron Dougherty

Just some clarification, Kenny keeps calling 'Scanlan's Hand' Mage Hand. Mage Hand is usually standard Hand size and can only hold 5lbs of weight. He uses a variation of 'Bigby's Hand' that's larger and even has Hit Points

Yuma Nanami

Demogorgon is the name of a single entity in classic dnd, and is very different from what Stranger Things envisions.

Zain Cassis

I think the most twisted thing about the Sun Tree moment is that there was no tangible reason for it. Like, the Briarwoods didn't put some kind of curse on the bodies that would weaken Vox Machina. It was PURE psychological torment. 😨

HBelmont 24

Especially due to them being orphan and alone from a young age

Suplee215

I think it's also because Vex, at this point, really doesn't like Keyleth. We'll see more of it throughout this first season, but Vex gets on Keyleth's case whenever she screws up more than anyone else.

HBelmont 24

It's weird. It's not game of thrones weird but it's weird. Semi spoiler but I think its covered by now. They have an unhealthy codepdence on each other. Which is common in their situation. It's less overprotective and more abandonment issues. She's fearful that if he gets with keyleth that it means he'll leave her. Not in a romantic way just that they'll eventually grow apart.

Suplee215

One thing I've noticed about Vax and Vex (based on the show, I've never watched the campaign) is that Vax's dynamic with the group is a little different than Vex's. Vax seems to be the more extrovert of the pair, where he interacts with the group more (he has nicknames for Pike and Keyleth, and cracks jokes with Grog and Scanlan). Vex does seem more reserved in her interactions (although she does step in when a plan is needed). I do get that they are trauma-bonded twins and that's why they are super-protective. Also, having a sister close to the same age as me, when I first saw Vex and Vax's conversation my first thought was "yup, overprotective sister."

Robert Bonfante

Having two extremely close siblings and one is jealous of the other falling in love with someone isn't actually that weird, or Game of Thronesy. Vex and Vax have been the center of each others' worlds for their entire lives, and having that change with the addition of a romantic partner is threatening to Vex's comfortable status quo and comes with a(n unreasonable) fear of being left fully alone.

Ferret

Vax and Gilmore's flirting never came across as serious to me, like Vax is definitely bi and they're actually attracted to each other but I always read it as friendly "we're never gonna be a thing but you're hot and I want you to know it."

Ferret

No kenny, there's nothing going on between Vax and vex lol they're just close because they're all they've ever had. Lol

💥Katsuki BakuGOAT💥 (Tobio)

Another fun fact, the reason he's called Melf is because Luke didn't actually come up with a name for him, and he just wrote down m-elf (male).

Ferret

For all the noncasters out there: Mage Hand is a Cantrip, meaning it can be cast at no cost. And is the size of a normal human(type) hand that can perform most any action a normal hand can perform but at a distance. Meant to help the Wizardly types do simple actions while being able to focus on other things and of course used in all manner of ways. What Scanlan is using is called Bigby's Hand, a massive giant sized hand that can do anything a giant hand can do. It has limited uses but since he is on the smaller side he can actually ride his hand and tends to use it for mobility since other characters tend to have speed or flight. However Bigby is an actual mage across the published lore of D&D and therefore copywritten. So they call this version of the spell Scanlan's Hand. Extra tidbit, when you hear a spell like Bigby's Hand or Tensor's Floating Disk, Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion. These are all real people's characters that contributed to the creation of D&D. Mordenkainen is actually the name of the character of Gary Gygax, the creator of D&D. His son, Luke Gugax's, used to come home from school when he was a kid to play D&D with his dad to help him play test the original game. Luke's character was called Melf, as in Melf's Acid Arrow. Which again for noncasters, has been around since the beginning because Luke as a kid wanted to be able to shoot acid at things. Luke is a actually a veteran of the US Army now and will often do charity for other veterans and various causes in the form of D&D events as Melf, which is awesome to see for the people that sit down at the table and know the history. Also, don't worry about Vex and Vax. They are twins and have been the only people taking care of each other for pretty much their whole lives. They are very protective of each other and have only been able to rely on each other, so that's what we are seeing.

J Valentine

Definitely the latter. I NEVER got that vibe in this show.

HBelmont 24

A bunch of reactors read that Vax & Vex convo in a Lannister way, and I don't know if it's the writings fault or if people just have Game of Thrones brain rot. They are protective of each other.

David Bodor

"Kiki" is such a cute nickname. I ship Vaxleth. 🥰

HBelmont 24

Man it would be great for you guys to react to table to screen moments, maybe after each season or after the series. Since Kenny is so curious to find out what really went down during those moments at the table, I think it would be really fun for you guys to react to those

wanira 11

You should look up the live show moment where they got to see the hanged people and realized what it meant.

Roy Meulblok

Just like it was with Keyleth, wasn't it Marisha who said that?

HBelmont 24

The hanging tree scene is such an iconic genius Mercer moment, he loves to implement horror aspects in his campaigns and this was such a great moment. At first no one realized what it was supposed to mean, but then as Matt went on describing the scene the slow realization took over : "It's us"

wanira 11

Why is that where K & M's minds went? 😩

HBelmont 24

Don't worry the twins aren't in an incest thing and won't be, if they are following the campaign story.

Kristopher Sy

There's nothing weird going on between Vex and Vax don't worry 😂 she's just being overprotective

wanira 11

"C'mon, Percy. Faster! Hyah!" "This thing was not built for speed, and DID YOU JUST 'HYAH' ME??" One of my favorite lines in the show. Percy's the funniest character sometimes. He's the straight man, kinda like Iida from MHA. 🤣🤣

HBelmont 24

Scanlan's hand is a combination of mage hand and Bigbsy's hand.

Suplee215

That, and him LIKING the undead wolf tongue thing. 😖

HBelmont 24

Same 🐴 💀😬

HBelmont 24

I already saw the rage in montanas face when I saw this episode for the first time a few weeks ago

Braden Jackson

Love how chill Gilmore is when he sees Vax and Keyleth. He'll flirt with Vax all the live long day, but he can tell when his heart is someone else's. Be like Gilmore. 👍

HBelmont 24

"What? I still finished." Scanlan is WILD for that one. 😵‍💫😵‍💫

HBelmont 24

I freaking knew Montana would hate what happened to the horses this episode. 😪
