Leorio didn't pass the last qualifier because he was an amazing doctor, he passed because he showed incredible compassion and kindness. These are tests of character to weed out bad actors like the jackass who was going to lay traps before they start testing on actual skills.

The word itself comes from ancient Greece, and in Greek mythology, there is even a god of androgyny called Hermaphroditus. Yoshihiro Togashi, Hunter x Hunter's creator, frequently explores gender in his works. He's done it in Yu Yu Hakusho, quite prolifically in Level E, and several times in Hunter x Hunter. So let's not act like this is coming out of nowhere. As for what it adds to the story, well for one, it allows for reflection of reality in different contexts. That's what storytelling is all about. And his androgyny does explicitly come up, but I can't say more without spoilers.

Do japanese people find it funny I know they have a weird sense of humor something akin to "slap stick" and what ever one piece is.

While Leorio could not decide between the two, a immoral hunter might have not answered bc he would be fine with both dying and still pass the pre test. In the test with the cabin Leorio again is the only one to pass bc of kindness. Kurapika had the brains and Gon the brawn. the tests itself are very flawed. These pre tests, in the first place, are just to getpto the test site. If there is an immoral hunter that somehow got the test location through bribery etc then moral code is kinda unnecessary. And as mentioned the tests are also really biased. So I imagine there would be unfair tests too or tests where the "right" answer would be immoral bc the Proctor just likes it that way. Like the dude that followed Gon from the boat also didn't "pass" the captains test but still got the info to go to the tree etc

2025-01-17 10:53:47 +0000 UTCYeah, I don't like re-watching shows usually, even when I forget a lot of details it all comes back and then I find certain parts boring because there's no new thing for me to notice, but with reactions I get the perspective of the reactors which is new info and thus it makes it a lot more interesting to see shows again. Plus there's some scenes in shows that you just wanna know what people thought of, it's not that different to reading comment sections in that case, you just wanna know how people feel about a scene that is cool or touching or just plain important to you.

What's the point of asking about who they would save first and waiting for them to not say either if there's no ethics or morality involved? I figured they wanted hunters that would have a hard time picking a person... Same with the test after that, where the creatures say Laeorio passed because of his kindness and medical skills...

2025-01-17 04:46:45 +0000 UTCKenny is on the right track with the idea being a "hunter" isn't what WE consider a hunter, being closer to what "hero" means in MHA But as someone else pointed out, that's definitely NOT the same here. Hunter is simply an occupation (granted that has a VERY high bar to clear) with many different fields it can encompass. (As yall will see as the show progresses)

You need people who can fight, sure, but also if someone gets shot, you need someone who can pull them out of the line of fire and save their lives. Not to get too real, but I've seen footage of the BS combat medics deal with and they're the closest to the definition of hero as anyone can get.

The license ultimately just grants you power/authority/money. There isn't really any moral or ethical standard that hunters must adhere to. And so, I'm excited for the nuanced discussions to come
