Enjoy!! Episode 21 coming later today!!
She wasn't making more Twices though, she's making doubles of herself transformed into Twice. That's what's happening with the doubles of everyone else too, they mentioned that she was drinking the blood of the wounded from the battlefield to become them. She wouldn't have been able to double them otherwise because she doesn't have their measurements.

The thing is toga doesn’t need blood. She wants to take the blood of someone loves to become them.
It’s how she showed affection. Toga just needed to be accepted for her way of affection.
Keep in mind pre suppression, she is just wanted a little blood compared to her drain the whole blood

yeah i thought about this a lot and the one thing that came to mind was that should could become a nurse of some sort. Turn into the person and then withdraw blood for the patient. Whether its for blood transfusions or surgery. I felt like it would be perfect for her. Sucks that she had these urges and had no support. Her and twice were my all time favorite villain's cause they were relatable. Good people put into bad circumstances.

The one thing I always thought would be the easiest solution regarding Toga and her need for blood is blood bags. People donate blood all the time, and if Toga needs blood because of her quirk this would be a humane way to do it. It just sucks this was never an option for her. Although the blood means she can become them, so I guess people would be wary of donating... It's just a sad situation, but I really like how Toga was written overall. Loved your discussion on this!

So I think twice would be able to successfully double people who are dead because toga is using twices quirk (not even to it's full extent) and is able to make more twices and he is dead.

You had an interesting thought about why Toga didn't drink the league members blood but, I think the answers are simple. A- we never saw it even though it was happening. Or B- The uncontrollable urge to drink blood is only directed at people she has a crush on. Like Izuku and Ochako. She'll happily drink her friends blood, but it isn't a need like it would be for someone she wants to date. (Also yes, I am just watching this reaction over and over for days 😭)

Maybe its because I havent heard all of their discography, but of the songs I have heard, One Direction sounds like just pop music while 5 Seconds of Summer, of the songs I have heard, is heavier and more pop-rock oriented but with similar vocals. So my distinction being that its a JRock song and not a Jpop song (the OP)
Also, an irrelevant point I have discerning the two is that 5 Seconds lyrics, of the songs I have heard, are just grown up versions of 1D lyrics. 1D songs seemed aimed at young teens and 5SoS seem aimed at young adults. But this is strictly my view of them from when they were both really popular ~2015 or so when I was like 18-19. Never really went out of my way to listen to either (Except for "Teeth" by 5SoS, I saw an AMV using that song and the bassline goes hard)

“I want to touch you. Reach out to your scared heart” yeah. I’m not crying still from last ep. This one just broke me all over again. This anime hits so close to real life, because listening to a stranger, lending out a hand can literally change so much more than we’ll ever know. Villains aren’t born into the world. Neglecting them for their warranted feelings, will only naturally push someone over the edge. Obviously we don’t have the quirk aspect, but does that mean people in our world can’t be saved the same way

Since this is an Uraraka episode, I just wanted to share that if she were to use a bow, she could shoot 0 gravity arrows, meaning they fly straight at an infinite distance.
She would be able to snipe people from further away than Lady Nagant, the only limiting factor would be Earth's curvature.

They're pretty good yeah. I don't like that they skip intros fully as I like seeing opinions on them and i also dislike their format for their uncut videos. It's too hard to watch cause watching it without my own copy is difficult since they blur it randomly and watching it WITH my own copy is even harder since they skip Intros and recaps so it's difficult to sync. It should be one or the other you know? Lol either watch it unblurred fully or do a watch along where I don't have to re sync so much. Otherwise yeah they're OK, but imo Noone touches this channel xD

I disagree, it sounds nothing like One Direction..... It sounds like 5 Seconds of Summer :P
And honestly, I was not a fan of this episode. I did not mind the Talk no Jutsu to try and convert her from being bad a few seasons ago, but she was WAYYYYY too far gone at this point and should have been just treated as a villain with 0 hope of redemption.
Imagine trying to comfort someone who is being mistreated.... Now imagine trying to comfort someone who has a bomb placed with the countdown turned on already. That is how this episode feels to me.
However, had she not been treated as a freak as a child, and learned she could love giving as much as she loves taking, she could have been a fantastic medical hero. She could have donated blood, asked for blood donations from specific close heroes to use their quirks medically (backup Recovery Girl), crazy things like that.

yeah- my interpretation of what’s happening is that: Toga drinks Twice blood, uses Twice’s quirk to make clones of herself- as Twice- hence them having her voice. Then those clones can take in blood from other people and turn into them, because Togas quirk allows her to swap between people whose blood she’s ingested. There is no twice on the battlefield, like, his physical body, all the twice clones are just toga as twice and therefor can also use togas power to transform into someone else

I’m saying twice never made other people that HE CONTROLLED, typically he would make other people then those people would behave and act on the will of the people they were turned into. Here it seems toga/twice actually didn’t use double, and instead used togas quirk to drink the blood of those people mid fight and turn into them. Otherwise, a double of Tsu would simply start helping the heroes, based on the logic set by the previous other people doubles twice has made in the past

Twice sent clones of Dabi after Aizawa back in S3, in S4 he made a clone of the Shie Hassaikai punch guy and a clone of Mr. Compress, in S5 he made clones of Compress, Shiggy, and Dabi to fight Re Destro. Finally in his death scene he was about to create clones of the whole League of villains before Hawks destroyed them
V STAN
2025-01-01 22:28:02 +0000 UTC
Twice absolutely could do that and did do it several times. He sent Dabi clones to fight Aizawa and Vlad King in season 3 and a Mr. Compress clone to steal Eri in season 4. In the tower against ReDestro in season 5 he made clones of the entire league. Twice's Shigaraki clone lost to ReDestro right before the now awakening real Shigaraki arrived and decayed the tower. This was a power Twice used repeatedly.

This was such an amazing climax of Toga and Ururaka story arc. I love it soo much. Toga really is just a person let down by the systems meant to help her. Her friends and family, quirk counselling and other things supposedly set in place to help those with Quirks.
Instead she was branded a deviant, an evil person with no hope to be accepted in society unless she buried her very sense of self and changed everything about herself. Which would never work.
Pugz
2025-01-01 21:06:44 +0000 UTC
Exactly. Toga represents the idea of kinks, queer love, and other ideas about nontraditional attractions and relationships. The entire point of her opening up and saying "I fall in love with everyone easily. Boys. Girls. Heroes. Villains" is virtually her signalling that she's pansexual (or a representation of such) and viewing it as a pathology is kinda conversion camp diagnosis. But I think Toga represents such a visceral disgust in blood drinking that it makes the narrative muddled? Harder to see clearly? Lol

THIS!!! Himiko is also a subversion of the yandere trope. A lot of casual viewers think of her as a yandere, but she's actually kind-of the opposite. She finds joy in sharing her love, like the way she was so excited when she found out Ochako also had a crush on Deku. I also love how Horikoshi took that "fighting over boys" cliche and turned it into "I want to talk about love with YOU. I want to accept the love YOU have for ME. I want to give you MY love, and I'm willing to die for it." Deku wasn't part of it at all. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when I read the manga and saw Ochako's confession that she loves Deku in this fight. It's such an important moment, and it absolutely should have been said, but throwing Deku's name in randomly felt out of place for me.

She could have become an invaluable asset to medical organizations everywhere if she was treated properly. She does have a lot of mental health issues to be fair, but most of those were caused by how her parents treated her and her being sent to this weird quirk counseling thing that sounds like gay conversion camps sound in our world - tons of abuse.
They even used the line "straighten her out" in the dub here, the allegory was a bit on the nose XD
David Bodor

yeah, i’m glad i’m not the only one who thought of this! toga’s whole plot line feels like an allegory for queer youth who suffered at the hands of abusive parents.
especially the league of villains’ acceptance of her allowing her to authentically love whoever she wanted to love. her line, “that’s why i joined the league of villains – it was the only place where i could live and love how i wanted to” solidified that for me.

I have plenty intrusive thoughts myself and I think one of the best ways to explain it to people who don't, is the phenomena called the "Call of the void".
Basically it is this weird urge/thought to jump when you are in a place that's really high up. A lot of people experience it, you stand at a ledge or a mountainside or anything high and you look down and feel this weird feeling of "What would it be like if I slipped off or jumped off". Obviously you don't actually want to jump off, but it feels like it for a quick moment.
Intrusive thoughts can be a lot like that. You see a baby next to a concrete wall and think - What would it look like if that baby's head was smashed into the wall? - and you immediately think, no that is HORRIBLE, but you can't help having the thought itself. It's like drawing a hand in a card game - you can't choose what you draw - but then you discard the thoughts that you don't want.

i relate Toga to demon slayer. they are born with an ingrained want of eating humans, but Tomayo found an eithical way through it (when she gained control of herself). With Toga, yes she does need psychological support, but also the general public in my hero needs to be more empathetic to others feelings. There could of been a world where Toga was accepted as a child and was taught a useful outlet to move forward. Instead she was ridiculed for how she was born and forced to mask who she was for other peoples comfort.

Totally agree. I heard someone explain Toga in a good way in terms of, she's a child so, her "right and wrong" are very simple right now, which to fully formed adults can sound like mental health. But also, the blood thing is her expression of love. She needs a healthy way to get it rather than, stab.

Calling Toga's behavior as simply a "mental health issue" , I think it flattens what's happening for her. Because the idea is that you guys still don't think she should suck blood at all, which ignores why she's doing it. She doesn't want to stop sucking blood, it's genetically programmed into her as a way to connect with the world. I think there's room for discussion about HOW she does it, but mislabeling the WHY is the same as ignoring who she really is.

the thing i love most about toga and ochakos relationship or just this fight specifically is it's a subversion on the typical 2 girls fighting over a guy cliche, from the beginning deku has always been a big factor in toga and ochakos rivalry but once we get to the actual final show down they talk about deku a bit naturally but he's not the main focus it quickly revolves into just being about them and their own feelings and they're able to connect on a way deeper level than just "we have the same crush"

It’s a good representation of life. Some of the people who need the most help (addiction, mental health issues, abuse victims, etc.) aren’t always gonna be easy to help. Anyone can help someone when it’s easy but most people give up the moment they have to put more effort in. Toga had also tried to reach out (in her own way) & Ochako’s response came across as harsh to her. So it’s representation of trying to help someone who desperately wants to be helped but can’t bring themselves to - the extra effort, which then ties back to Ochako’s speech at UA, when Principal Nezu said it’s the ones willing to take the difficult path & make the extra steps who will become the true heroes. In MHA’s society, being a hero is too easy, hence all the fake ones. This is showing the difference.

Honestly, I think the fact that Uraraka jumped through the hoops is what accentuates the narrative best since it's the essence of being a hero. She's doing everything she can to help someone in need, because that person has already been failed ten times over. If anything, I'd say the dynamic between Toga and Uraraka is the best version of this in the story because Uraraka does everything she can to succeed and get through to Toga, not letting anything get in her way.
In some ways, it's a refreshing FU to the people saying that Toga didn't deserve to be saved or helped, since it's actually showing what happens when a true hero is confronted with someone who seems impossible to reach. It's especially neat here, as we had a whole episode before this where Endeavor failed miserably to save Toya because he was so unsure of what to do. But here, we see that Uraraka knows what she's going to do, and it's save this person. It's like an exaggerated version of Eri from season 4. Eri didn't inherently WANT to be saved, but Deku reached out anyways. Here, Uraraka is given many reasons to just leave Toga to rot, but then she would just be conforming to the standards of the corrupt society that led Toga to where she is now, so in order to stop the cycle of corruption, Uraraka chose to be a hero.

Also to clarify, when Ochako said she was jealous of togas smile, she didn't mean in reference to Deku, she meant because she Herself struggls to show her authentic emotion.

This is the exact same thing as Deku connecting with Shiggy and the Todoroki family, the only difference is that this is someone who doesn't have a "true emotional investment" for their outreach. Deku is forcibly bound to save Shiggy by AFO/OFA and Shoto has his family, but Ochaco is making an outreach simply because it's right. It may be a bit clumsier because it's not as fully filled in, but it's arguably making the biggest push to emphasize the narrative

I gotta say, I kinda appreciate the juxtaposition here. Last episode, we saw Endeavor failing to save Touya, but now, we’re seeing another hero basically succeeding in saving a villain by never giving up. Yeah Toga seems to be dead too, but it’s almost night and day with how different these scenarios played out.

So you're mistaken, Kenny. It was Twice who killed Eel Boy in season six, and then Toga, disguised as Eel Boy, slaughtered a whole squad of heroes.

This is my favorite episode in the entire show, for the obvious reason that Toga is my favourite fictional character ever. I cry every time 😭

It's because the clones Toga are making are all her with twices appearance. Not twice himself. Same with the hero's, they're copys of Toga who drank their blood around the battlefield

An interesting point that I never realized until I was rewatching: Himiko Toga never bites another person in the entire series, only herself. When she takes blood from people it's always with syringes or knives.
There is honestly so much excellent subtle writing with her character to indicate how deeply the reactions of her parents and the people who tried to make her mask her behavior impacted her on a deep level. Her avoidance of biting other people is one example and the other being her repeated assertion that she is "a normal girl".
Despite her stated rejection of society, her parents, and the values of people who couldn't understand her throughout the entire series we see her still unconsciously trying to be accepted by them, to play by those internalized rules in her own twisted way in the hope that someone, anyone will accept and understand her.

The clones were all of Toga transformed into twice, not straight up twice. So the clones of froppy and the others were Toga clones who had drank their blood around the battle field.

She has to jump through hoops now because during the entire series Toga was trying to connect with her but Ochako pushed her away.

The music during Ochakos speech this episode is her's and toga's themes combined. It's now my favourite song, it's so beautiful and perfect for the scene 😭

So I'm STILL conflicted on how to feel about Toga.
While I definitely feel for her, this episode especially, I feel like the story makes Ururaka jump through so many hoops to try and get through to this character that has done SO much death and destruction.
I get that that's the point, that heroes should try to make a connection with those who need it, but the execution with Toga just feels janky.

I think it’s because Twice’s clones only copy the current version of whoever’s being copied. Like, with Compress way back in season 4 he was still missing his arm and all that. And since the original Twice isn’t alive anymore, the new Twice clones are just husks basically.

Oh dang, I never before thought of how differently Twice's clones and Toga's clones operating, with Toga controlling her clones.
Almost sounds like a plot hole; I liked how Twice's kept the personality of who they were based on.

As someone with mixed feelings on Toga, I will say her design this episode goes REALLY hard.
The tattered Twice costume while standing on a mountain of clones of her dead friend is a VERY cool shot.
