MHA 7x14

Comments

Link Click would be such a great show to watch ! You would 100% love it !

Cristina M

Yeah I agree sadly, good message but just why that character in this sense?!

Kaleb Beaumont

i still think this was the most egregiously ignorant narrative choice imo. i can understand that within the internal logic of mha’s universe that human-based racism and discrimination might not exist in its present day society, but the optics of having a heteromorph say that to an explicitly black man in a country that isn’t exactly a diverse cultural melting pot the same way new york city is irked me. i appreciate that horikoshi’s intention was probably to call attention to real world oppression of marginalised people, but it feels shallow and disingenuous sadly :(

kruz miller

I can definitely understand that the fan service is absolutely too much, kinda forgot abt it cause I haven’t seen it in a while

will robertson

Wdym? THIS is the emotional heavyweight! 😢

H-Bomb 24

Yall should watch Vinland next the storytelling, mc development, and message are top tier

Luke

Danny

gamerx

Nominating bungo stray dogs because I haven't heard anyone mention that one before! I think they would really enjoy it plus its got a great dub and familiar voice actors!

Day

Yeah the amount of fanservice is just sooooo overboard and its pretty consistent through both seasons

Day

I would, but having seen season 1 I can say with confidence it’s too much fan service for us

Letts React

This was a much more accurate depiction of movements like this than you usually see in media. The only really unrealistic part of this was that the mob didn't kill Shoji but it wasn't for lack of trying and this is still MHA after all. Depictions of these types of movements tend to be sympathetic to rioters to the point of lying. The crowd repeatedly have reservations that are overruled by outright lies from the leaders at the top. That's what activism looks like.

Mekar

Shoji getting scarred even after saving that girl reminds me of Gyomei's backstory from Demon Slayer, where he protected the last of the orphans he cared for from a demon, but was blamed for the crime, anyway. 😭😭

H-Bomb 24

Fire force would be an epic watch!!!!

Chay Smith

Have yall ever considered watching fire force? Season 3 is supposed to come out in 2025

will robertson

You trusted mother trucker 😅

H-Bomb 24

Add Koda's mom and dad to the list of actually good parents in My Hero. ❤️

H-Bomb 24

Seriously. 😅

H-Bomb 24

The next couple episodes should DEFINITELY be a double drop, if you ask me. 🤞😔🤞

H-Bomb 24

It's bc the main focus is somewhere else and there are already so many characters. I also think that hori maybe doesn't know how to write about such topics. He had a lot of other topics he touched upon only shallowly bc there was no space for them or he didn't know how to write them properly. It's a bit disappointing but this isn't that kind of story I guess

Limini

That's what I like about this season though! As cool as the main characters are, we saw them enough throughout the past seasons, I like that the others got a chance to shine

RenpaiSenpai

The thing about this arc is it feels like a somewhat disingenuous approach to such an important topic. The MLA member is blatantly being manipulative, the mob are literally mindless fodder who don’t add anything except constantly shouting “what do we do now? 🤪” & Spinner was turned into a mindless tool who can’t actually advocate or provide counter arguments. Now you can say that’s the point & cool but then having the teenage hero monologue with not a single person on the other side having the mental capacity to actually bring up good points against them is a bit cheap & tone deaf. Horikoshi wanted to tackle this topic earlier & I wish he had because maybe it would’ve been fleshed out a bit more. It’s okay though, just cheap.

KM

Mineta realizing what he said could've been hurtful and apologizing to Shoji was so nice. 😊 Now, if we could get that with the ENTIRE female cast, I think we could finally get off his back . . .

H-Bomb 24

This episode is the episode I believe to be the most underrated episode of the season. It's understandable given it's sandwiched by some emotional heavyweights and a great fight in the episode prior, but it's nonetheless a reminder that even in a society like MHA, prejudice is present.

Stache King

Yooo they chose my question too. That's so cool, can't wait for next episode 😁

XRon256

It's similar to the concept we have of "conventional attractiveness". Heteromorphs like Shoji and Koda compared to ones that are more human looking like Mina or even cute ones like the dog police captain and the cat officer

Scar

thats what makes the show great tho...

Scar

As a black man who grew up rural… I SOB at this episode. It speaks so much to the unrest I feel within the community. I try my best to advocate for advancement in local community’s and cultures while still expressing our own, but time and time again people would simply stay around people of like kind and like mind. I’m still trying though. Even though I constantly feel dejected from both sides. Gotta make it better for my kids, even if the improvement is small. We have to be better than those who came before.

Æther Paradox

One thing with this episode that sparked a lot of controversy/discussion was the heteromorphs saying to a black man *in japan* "you people who look human could never understand our oppression" and like I get MHA isnt a one to one with current earth geopolitics but still DAMN

Kaleb Beaumont

Montana is already great at equestrian jumping but her and Dan would be UNSTOPPABLE with Kodas quirk lol

💥Katsuki BakuGONE💥(Kacchan)

Its themes and backstory like this that make me wish we had a bit more time with it. I really liked its inclusion, and how Shoji was Horikoshi’s choice to be the face of it from the students side. Great episode though!

Danny C

The heterotroph things have been touched on earlier in the series it was just subtle. In the provisional license arc when they introduce gang orca they say he’s number 3 on the “list of heroes who look like villians”. After the stain fight todoroki calls the dog man police chief a mutt. In heroes rising chimera makes some comments to shoji that are clearly projections of his own life experiences like “your an ugly one, ever blame your parents for the crappy genes” and he also says he's been called a monster his entire life. When the league was attacking the transport truck carrying overhaul dabi calls spinner lizard and spinner gets really angry and says “don’t call me lizard” and a few more I can’t remember right now. Also the canon spin off manga vigilantes goes into how many heterotrophs have to deal with accessibility issues do to size or body shape and how it can be hard for them to work in certain industries like food service because of how people can view them as scary or intimidating.

I've always loved shoji and hated how people talked about him so this is one of my favorite episodes.

💥Katsuki BakuGONE💥(Kacchan)

Dude Horikoshi will always have my love for the way he writes this show

💥Katsuki BakuGONE💥(Kacchan)

😁

💥Katsuki BakuGONE💥(Kacchan)

I honestly got the opposite impression just from how he conducts himself. Like, sure the commission keeps him on a relatively short leash, but he has his own agency with a few different heroes by the looks of things, and is well known and loved (or I guess was loved) by the public, so he definitely has his fair share of interactions. Unless you mean him when he was growing up, in which case, I can totally see that.

Noboi

This one is really heartbreaking. Especially because it is very easily applicable to real life. How _do_ you stop hatred and bigotry? We saw it with the Black Lives Matter Movement, hell, even with the Civil rights movemet all the way back: As soon as a group of the opressed people gathered, it was immediatly called "A riot" no matter if it was or not. Granted, this _is_ a riot, but it also seems like a systemic problem that has been ignored time and time again until the well flowed over. I also appreciate the difference between City and small towns. As someone who moved to a small town when I was young: If you don't fit in, it is _bitter._ My mom was a single mother divorcee with me, an illegitimate child and she married the town pastor. People _hated_ her. And in extension me. We were ostracised, so much so, that we eventually moved because of it. Small towns can have wonderful community, but only if you fit the mold. If you don't it can be the ugliest thig ever

Saiyasha

Tbf, Hawks didn't really have any interaction with most of the poeple anyway...

Saiyasha

This was the first season I’ve thought to myself, I hate that my hero gives attention to all their characters, there is only 2 places we should be this deep in the anime and battle, all for one vs number 1 and 2 and deku vs shigaraki

Thabelo Mojaki

Not to mention the tallest.

H-Bomb 24

Crazy that Shoji is technically the youngest one in Class 1A

Deiondre0

I like the small detail that Mina, Mineta, etc. aren’t nearly as familiar with how heteromorphs are treated since they have “human faces”/quirks that make them look more appealing traditionally. Similarly, Hawks apparently grew up in the same city as Shoji and Spinner, but his appearance has been mostly seen as appealing. I like the little nuances here with how they look and how there really is a lot more to how the heteromorphs are treated and why it plays on what people find to be “ugly” or “scary.”

Noboi

Gang orcas number 10 of looking like a villain. 32:00. I also looked it up to make sure, I thought they said 3.

Babybear47

I love how everyone in class 1A is getting a shine

Joe Duncan

I too have always liked Spinner, it’s so sad to see what AFO has done to him 😔

Kiribukai

This episode is so good. Shoji and Koda getting their moment was well deserved and done exceptionally well. I remember when I was watching week to week, I was slightly disappointed that we were not getting a continuation of the Deku/Shiggy fight this episode, but by the end of it I was completely invested and cheering so hard for Shoji 🥹

Kiribukai

LOL THAT WAS TOO GOOD 🤣

Kiribukai

I agree completely. In a series that explores the true values of heroism, Shoji is actually one of the most genuinely heroic people in the show.

H-Bomb 24

Oh, he does . . .

H-Bomb 24

His moment has come! Hope he had a fitting pp

Limini

A huge part is that even progressive people are mostly nice to 'acceptable' heteromorphs. Like the pretty ones or less disgusting ones. Like the difference between the dog cop and the sludge person . All the "good" Heteromorphs or the ones in high position are either cute or cool. Like people would have probably protested if sludge person wouldhave been principal. Like him sitting in aizawas scarf is cute but sludge?

Limini

THE KATSUKI BAKUGONE REACTION LMAO

Rhythem

This episode never fails to make me emotional, especially all the flashbacks. 😭I liked Shoji before, but the reveal of his backstory made him go up as one of my favorite MHA characters. Koda's upgrade was also so cool and I'm happy that they gave focus to these two.

Rhythem

Working on it

Letts React

I actually really didn't like this episode when I first watched it. I wanted to get to Deku or Dabi or AFO or toga not spinner lol. You made this episode much more enjoyable

Erin Ryan

Koda's finally got his Aquaman upgrade 🐕🐈🐇🐦‍⬛ The fact his Ultimate Move is called "Hitchcock Birds" is awesome.

H-Bomb 24

Martin Luther King Shoji

Erin Ryan

I feel ya. Shoji's one of the most heroic characters, and Spinner's arguably the most underrated antagonist in the series.

H-Bomb 24

As a long time fan of Shoji, Spinner, AND Koda, this is one of my favorite episodes of the season.

Noboi

Guys will watch MHA OP13 and say hell yea 💯

ssgutd

Kenny, whatever happened to the Montouya intro art? I thought it would come when you guys reached season seven on YouTube.

H-Bomb 24

I had a dark theory after seeing this episode a second time. We learn about Shoji's past and the messed up way he was treated as a kid. Now think back to the dorm episode in season three, where we learn Shoji doesn't really have many belongings. Guys, I think Shoji might've been homeless before this. 😰

H-Bomb 24

In a show that focuses and deep-dives into the true values of heroism, I am proud to say that Shoji is genuinely one of the most heroic characters in My Hero Academia. His voice work is great, too. Ian Sinclair FINALLY gets to flex in this show.

H-Bomb 24

Dude, what they did with this episode is phenomenal. Shoji was a character I already really liked, but this episode made him genuinely one of my favorite characters. Koda shines, as well; it's really impressive that Studio Bones was able to craft such a phenomenal episode focusing SOLELY on side characters who haven't had much screentime or development.
