Honestly, while Shoto’s plan here was kinda bad, I can’t help but feel super proud of him and how much he’s grown. And of course for as messed up as Touya has become, I can’t help but feel for him here.

Sure the training is major factor in his mind, but you even heard him say that he had to go home and APOLOGIZE to his siblings and his mom. Thats something youre really forgetting, he didnt hate the FAMILY, he hated ENDEAVOR. He even screamed out while burning to death that he never got to show him anything, and it was all his dad's fault (which it ABSOLUTELY was)

2024-11-23 19:09:28 +0000 UTCUsually Kenny is on it when analyzing the story, but I gotta hand it to Montana she broke it down and I 100% agree with what she said, Touya was hoping his death would have have made some type of impact on his father and maybe even change him to the better, but seeing that nothing changed and that Endeavor continuing trying to replace Touya with Shouto made him think his life was worthless in his father's eyes and mentally broke him.

Dabi never learned to process those feelings, whereas Shoto, who started the series on a similar trajectory, has been learning to do just that with the help of his friends throughout the series. Their matchup is just so on-point thematically. Things like this are why I say MHA is one of the most well-executed narratives in the modern era.

He lost _3 years_ of really crucial developemt, from preteen to young teen. That time would have been vital to teach him mental control and dealing with his emotions, which explains why he still pretty much acts like a petulant child.

2024-11-23 16:40:06 +0000 UTCI adore Dabi, we have seen many characters who have a general hatred for society or life itself. So there’s no personal hate ,usually just a sense of “I want to destroy X thing and I need you out of my way” which commonly means death or extreme injury for the hero. In this case Dabi does hate this society but just because it props up someone like his father as their best hero, most villains in Dabis shoes are cold and unfeeling or kinda don’t feel emotions most do. But for Dabi he fully understands the emotions others feel for his actions and he uses that to just twist the knife that much more. Montana pointed this out that it’s odd that Dabi hates his family but still considers to BE his family, in retrospect I disagree. Dabi wants to cause the most pain possible to his family and most importantly his dad. Dabi is doing the opposite of dehumanization, (which is commonly used so people can hurt other people without guilt or second thoughts, think soldiers especially during massive wars.) Dabi wants to cause max pain to his family, physically, one of the worst things to experience is being burned. And he obviously has that down but emotionally, he is creating a bond between his family members by using terms like dad, mom, brother, sister. So when he fights his family it’s triple fold pain. Burning, seeing what happened to their family member literally incinerating himself, and that one of their own family members is trying to murder them
