The Statue: A Hucow Tale of Cosmic Proportions Ch06 - WIP
Added 2024-06-27 20:47:50 +0000 UTCAs the gang devises a way to get through a workday without a spontaneous orgy, Sadie finds a strange set of pages hidden in her uncle's books. She enlists the school's history teacher, Juliet, to help translate, and Sadie learns for the second time what happens when she tampers with bizarre artifacts.
Hi all. I have writer's block. I have a Lego factory's level of block on my writing. It's all hands on deck for the neurosis brigade. Executive dysfunction, task avoidance, choice paralysis. Throw in some stress dreams, why not.
What's causing this block? Well, this section of this story didn't help. There's this gap in the timeline where Sadie/Marie/Tom have to go back to the school building in order to encounter the other characters who are going to be drawn into the story. So I wanted something happen to cover that gap. At first, I tried to just brute force through it. Wrote a big scene happening as soon as they got to school, but that left me in a spot where I needed to introduce other school-based characters like a principal or whoever. I scrapped that and when I went looking for an alternative I slammed face first into the block.
I don't know how other people experience this, but for me it's like there's a two foot long sentient gummy worm stuck in the forward part of my thinking space. It's just there, kind of oily. Flopping around. Should definitely deal with that. Need to get it out of the headspace. So naturally, I do everything else instead.
This week, I sat down and came up with this Juliet idea to cover the gap. It wound up being tamer than I wanted, but when I realized that, I'd already gotten the worm halfway out the frontal lobe so I kept pushing rather than letting it wriggle back in. Hopefully this fixes things in my head so I can move on, and maybe it's somewhat enjoyable to read, too.
