Enjoy! Next ep on Saturday!

MHA 5x18

Comments

Well, yes and no. Even if I was to cut Enji some slack and consider this the only time he actively reaches out to them, I just think season 6 makes this entire promise on Enji's part age extremely terribly, especially considering that this is the only act of atonement in the series that he isn't forced into doing. It's a good moment, just surrounded by a lot of circumstances that don't work as well.

Noboi

Well, that's actually kind of the problem. The implication is that Natsuo would have died had the other 3 not been there, which was purely circumstantial.

Noboi

We don’t know how Endeavour would have reacted had he been alone. The fact of the matter is Endeavour knew both consciously and subconsciously that the three of them were there, and at least subconsciously knew that they were more than capable of dealing with Ending without him. If he was all alone and he knew he was all alone then he likely would have acted differently, whether he saved Natsu, or killed Ending, or failed to save Natsu. It’s impossible to say how he would have reacted had things been different we can only comment on how he reacted in this specific instance

WhateverIFeelLike

I would agree if there weren’t 3 other hero course students there backing him up. Those 3 were more than capable of handling the situation without Endeavour

WhateverIFeelLike

He does stay away. Natsu was only showing up at dinners including this one because of his siblings. Endeavour only reaches out to Fuyumi and Natsu about the raid in case something went wrong and he didn’t make it, since the last time he nearly died fighting the Nomu he didn’t get to say anything to them

WhateverIFeelLike

It’s definitely a coping mechanism for sure

Noboi

When it comes to Fuyumi she has the best relationship of the siblings with their father. At times it almost feels like she turned that neglect he showed to her to a longing to have a good relationship.

Historia-Europa

I’ve already mentioned that I feel horrible for Natsuo here, but another thing that isn’t mentioned nearly enough is how badly Endeavor handled this situation. Natsuo almost died because of Endeavor’s freezing up, and Endeavor straight up told him why he froze up to Natsuo’s face seconds after he was rescued while in the middle of the road. I know that last part was likely for dramatic effect, but it definitely doesn’t help Enji’s case of handling family situations badly. Luckily he managed to get in some atonement at the end, claiming he’ll stay away. However I will say, Enji’s promise to stay away at the end of this episode has definitely aged badly on account of how season 6 begins.

Noboi

I’ve mentioned this before, but it was definitely a bad move on Endeavor’s part. The implication that Endeavor likely would have remained frozen throughout most of that time means that Natsuo likely would have died if the students weren’t there. He meant well, but it was far from a wise decision.

Noboi

To be fair, that was very dumb on Endeavor’s part. While his heart was in the right place, the implications of what could have happened to Natsuo are terrifying.

Noboi

I interpreted Endeavor's comment being afraid that if he saved him, Natsuo would feel indebted to him and like he was obligated to "play nice" so to speak. He doesn't want them playing at being a happy family just because they feel like they owe him something. Of course it hurts that Natsuo has so much anger towards him, but he understands that his anger is valid and doesn't want him to feel like he owes him kindness (or if he does show his anger, to feel guilty for being angry at someone who saved his life). As he said, he doesn't want forgiveness but atonement. And I think part of that atonement is wanting his children to be honest about their feelings even if it hurts him, because after years of doing the opposite he's finally prioritizing their feelings over his own desires.

Ven

even if its the worst im glad they are coming around to merry go round

Cpt crunch

Endeavor had a PTSD freeze moment. All that was going through his mind was if he failed, he'd never hear Natsuo talk to him again, even if he was angry. He was panicking at the thought of losing another son because of himself.

29:20 - I was alt tabbed when I suddenly heard the cut to the cat reaction and your reactions reminded me of an old old story that happened to me when I was a kid. I was like 6 or 7, we were out camping near a mountain with tents with a large group, family, friends ,etc and one late night/dawn I woke up to the sound of weird whisper pleading, this older absolute giant of a man was awake, crouched down into a ball kind of hung over, and saying over and over in a heartbroken whispering voice - "Little squirrel, please don't eat my bread. Little squirrel please don't eat my bread" . Yes, a squirrel was eating his sandwich. It was a funny thing to wake up to.

David Bodor

i actually think he froze because natsuo in that moment kinda looked like toya.. tho its also if he dose save him physically he cant save him emotionally.. the best he can do is like in his dream give them a good life with their mother and stay away

chris

the brother is dead.

chris

I never noticed before that Ending mentions seeing Endeavor catch a thief named Takami. That's interesting. Everything in Endeavor's life is so connected lol

Mekar

True but then Kenny and Montana did say that endeavor could snap out of it but still true

Babybear47

Tbh, Endeavor's logic there was dumber than Ending's ngl. Him not wanting Natsuo to feel obligated or neglected to accept endeavor for his past is good, but if Deku and the other weren't there, then Natsuo definitely would have died because Endeavor didn't do anything.

Noboi

The first time ya but the second time endeavor froze because he didn't wanna "see" basically another child die plus didn't want natsuo to feel neglected to except endeavor for his past but that was stated in the episode. I just think that if he (ending) did want him to actually "kill" him and knew about endeavor why wouldn't he know somehow (seeming ending was basically stocking endeavor it sound that hed maybe know about endeavors family drama) but obviously he didn't so lol nvm.

Babybear47

I didn't start the show hating him either ngl. I figured he'd have more to do later and was mostly just indifferent to him. Then I started to love him when his arc started, and now I hate him with how his arc has played out.

Noboi

I think that was also because he wanted Endeavor to stop momentarily so he could ask if he remembered him.

Noboi

Yeah, it's kind of dumb on Endeavor's part.

Noboi

I mean ya I get that I just think that if he did actually know his trauma that he wouldn't do that but technically he doesn't know no one does till technically season 6

Babybear47

He was giving him more reason to kill him, if his son got hurt he wouldn't be able to hold back his revenge.

Scar

Take it from me, it could be there for years All it takes is ONE incident (speaking from experience with kids lmao) But if you're cool with the risk, more power to ya lmao

Jinchuriki87

They seem quite dedicated to hating the song (but Kenny IS showing signs of redemption 🤣🤣🤣)

Jinchuriki87

What confused me is why did ending decide to put natsuo (how ever you spell his name) in front of him if he wanted endeavor to kill him like maybe if endeavor didn't have trama in his defense he "could" have got him/kill him

Babybear47

Ten out of ten "the road is alive" love it!!

Babybear47

Kitties yayyyy

RealKarma70131

The line with endeavour was about how he wouldn't forgive endeavour but he would still be indebted to him. Endeavours fear was that he wouldn't be able to talk to him since he still wouldn't be able to have anything nice to say and he would be unable to show his rage At endeavour as well. Which would cause him not to be able to speak to endeavor at all

gamerx

I guess, but my thought process is, training or not, at the very least I have a quirk. So I'm taking my chances and using it, I don't give a damn if all I can produce is snowflakes lol. I'd be like Kota, when he tried to use his little water quirk to save deku. It's like getting into a fight and deciding not to fight back because you've never been in a fight before and you know you'll lose. I don't take this too seriously though; I just thought it was funny

defnotdai

They both only have ice quirks. Endeavor didn't train the 2 of them at all in any capacity so they have no idea how to effectively use their quirks even to defend themselves. He only ever trained a kid when they had fire

Renn.88

Ayeee Kenny likes nickleback hell yeah

Renn.88

I could be having the worst day ever but Kenny and Montanas hatred of "hey brother listen" will never fail to make me laugh

Renn.88

well he probably had no reason to train with it so he might not really know how to use it to defend himself

Blaster man1129

The way I perceive characters like endeavor is a little different I guess because I didn't start the show hating him. Don't get me wrong, I recognized that he was a shitty father, but I think I automatically was still intrigued by his character because I knew there was more to be explored there, and I generally love those type of characters. Same thing goes for Bakugo. I recognized that Bakugo was a dick, yet he's been my favorite character in the show since season 1. But there's still a nice amount of people who hate Bakugo. I realized that I'm the type of person who's always wanting to give people grace.

defnotdai

He's definitely one of the most realistic characters in the series. Downside is that the realism kind of shoots his arc in the foot. He's a massive double edged sword for me.

Noboi

Nah they’re fine haha it’s been there over a year

Letts React

Man endeavor will forever be my #1 favorite character from this series... He's so flawed but continuously learned n grows from his past mistakes.. I love how he's really one of the most realistic characters in this series not because of his abuse but on how someone can unintentionally cause so much harm from their own dreams and desires people make those mistakes all the time

Digital Alikin

None of the my hero intros ever stood out to me as memorable, some I didn’t mind listening to but nothing I’d seek out. Until this season the only other intro I could name and place was the season 4 second intro. This is by far the best of all the opening songs for me.

TrixieTurner

it's my fav part of season 5

EndSoul995

Yeah Kenny does seem to be going pretty easy on endeavor. Maybe he just doesn’t have any kind of issues like that but I still feel like he’s being a little pushy with trying to get Montana to like him.

Christopher Collier

Her takes are sooo refreshing ngl. I honestly don't even think she's that nitpicky since a character like Endeavor somewhat deserves for his actions to be watched closely.

Noboi

Side note: you might seriously want to consider moving that cat tree because being RIGHT next to the TV (especially with that exchange) is making ME anxious lmao

Jinchuriki87

so why did natsuo not even attempt to defend himself against that villain lol

defnotdai

Poor Kenny is stuck with such insane info...man is ANXIOUSLY waiting to get through s6 😂😂

Jinchuriki87

It's such a cool switchup to see some perspective and thought from another angle. I think Montana is gonna have a FIELD DAY with Toga.

Æther Paradox

MVA starts next episode right?

Æther Paradox

In the review portion of this episode. When Montana keeps saying "Joke" can you edit in a png of "the laughing hero Joke" (Aizawa's ex from the licensing exam)

Æther Paradox

Just an FYI, this next arc actually comes BEFORE the Endeavor Agency Arc. In the manga, the next arc was shown before the Endeavor Agency Arc, but they flipped it here because the movie was coming out soon in Japan, and they wanted to get to the movie tie-in episode sooner.

Gestrid

the intro "HEY BROTHER LISTEN" is never not funny 😭

Doge Creations

Did y’all know ojiro and jean form attack on titan are the same person 🤯

Logan Chandler

Ngl, it's super refreshing to have someone actually treat Endeavor's character realistically like Montana.

Noboi

Only a 100 times more desperate

H-Bomb 24

They do.

Noboi

Well, I respected him for a little bit before that line was kind of messed up later. No spoilers though.

Noboi

Oh yeah I’ve read the comic.

TrixieTurner

bruh ending is such a batman type villian a total joker type

Indifferent Denji

yes they have ice

Indifferent Denji

my villain academia is much better in the manga than the anime, if you haven't read it already i highly suggest reading it!

sav

I actually don't know

H-Bomb 24

Yes we finally made it to the pinnacle of this season, without a doubt the best two episodes. The endeavor episodes always hit hard. Unfortunately we are now onto my least favorite part of the season, one I actually skip on rewatch.

TrixieTurner

do Natsuo and Fuyumi not have quirks?

defnotdai

Completely agree

H-Bomb 24

If you're gonna keep some the cat fight on YouTube, maybe add some fighting music. 🤣🤣

H-Bomb 24

"It's okay of you don't forgive me, because I don't want forgiveness. I want to atone." I DARE you to not at least respect Endeavor after that, at least a little bit. ESPECIALLY after that final scene, he gets major props for that.

H-Bomb 24

Even as someone who actually likes Endeavor's character, I look forward to these episodes mainly because it's so interesting to see how different situations, development, and relationships will be perceived by someone like Montana, who isn't so fond of Endeavor. Sometimes I may think she's being a little bias and nitpicky, and other times I may think she's being completely fair and spot on, but regardless I still always enjoy the discussions being had and disparity in opinion. I think it makes for good and honest conversation.

defnotdai

next episode is bout to be crazy

mal

MY VILLAIN ACADEMIA ARC COMING I CANT WAIT

mal

Endeavor's driver is a RIOT! 🤣🤣

H-Bomb 24

I live for Montana's endeavor reaction, they give me life. Pop off with that sassy opinion Queen hell yeah

Katsuki BakuGOAT

Kenny hey brother listen thanks so much for putting yourself through the pain of watching the opening again for the people like me that enjoy it.. I mean the visuals at least lol

Katsuki BakuGOAT

We always watch the opening if we havnt seen it in a while haha

Letts React

My heart breaks for poor Natsuo in this episode. He had plans and everything, but he had to come to a traumatizing family dinner, got unintentionally guilt-tripped for his perfectly reasonable feelings, and then got kidnapped and almost died several times. And then, Endeavor gave him another traumatic speech in the middle of the road before he could even catch his breath properly. A lot of people really like to praise Endeavor in this episode, but I think Natsuo's trauma is a bit glossed over by many. He's now both an abuse survivor and hostage survivor.

Noboi

One question, if you don't like the opening, why don't you skip it!?

Saw Meadow

Excited for the Villain episodes
