Enjoy! Thanks for watching this series! Until next season!
I haven't seen the animated show but are we really having the father of the girl who's basically gone forever consoling this kid who met her one day ago when he's probably pretty darn upset himself?

yeah I agree 100% with your review! I think they did PHENOMENAL on the special effects (some cgi looked bad but overall not horrible) and they had some spot-on casting like with Sokka and the Ozai. Hopefully in the next seasons we get that Azula absolute-pridefulness, but if they don't include that... yike
I also think they really shouldn't have changed Ozai's character, bc yes he's pretty emotionless except when fighting Aang but like Kenny said, he's 100% evil, no remorse, only thinking about his victory and how he can achieve it in the most efficient way possible (which is what made him so evil in the first place)

coming from someone who watched the show as a child and multiple times since. i think the show is a solid 7/10. I think if people could get over the changes from the OG and separate them. theyβd realize itβs a pretty cool story. Of course some things need to be changed to make sense for both story telling and resource management. Nothing will ever compare to the original. but i think this story shines in its own way.

Wow... overall, I now confirm what my friend told me.
The show was meh
I mean, I guess we see why they just called it "book 1" and left out the WATER...wtfffffffff?!
Oh and something y'all haven't mentioned...they omitted the part where aang attempts to firebend with jeong jeong (and katara then learns about healing)
Some of the changes made sense, but many of them did not.
The writing, in particular, the dialogue, was just so bland that what could have been phenomenal performances by a great cast, fell flat more often than not.
You could tell Kenny was struggling bc he looked like he was damn near about to pass out! Lmao
I think the funniest part was
Katara: "so much was lost"
Kenny: "like the plot"
(Which is not entirely true, but still...π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£)

For all my issues with this adaptation I gotta say that, despite all the changes with the character, Xiao has been such a delight to watch. This interpretation as a scheming, conniving, slimy little shit was such fun. Ken Leung absolutely slays it and was probably my favorite performance this entire show. It's a shame we won't get to see more of him in this adaptation.

I can't get over how botched Mai and Ty Lee were in the live-action. Absolutely neutered characters that basically are Girl 1 and Girl 2. No snark from Mai, no saccharin joy from Ty Lee. Mai and Ty Lee are one of the most dangerous non-bending fighters of the show and I'm supposed to believe that by season 2 we're gonna see them just jump into action? It's established immediately in the cartoon that Mai is basically Bullseye and Ty Lee is an extremely capable acrobat. I'll stand firm as a hater here. I absolutely hated how they handled the characters. Bumi's not a fun, mad genius anymore, but seems like an asshole that has literal dementia now. Iroh doesn't look like he regrets the war crimes he's committed, cartoon Iroh would never be that callous to the Earth Nation soldier that lost his brother. Suki is too horny to function apparently. Azula is now NOT an iron-willed character but trying to earn the attention of Ozai? Katara is playing the Ember Island version of Katara. Aang not being interested in learning the other bending styles for the entirety of the show, like what the fuck lol. They are setting up weird foundations for this show. I was entertained watching this the first time, but it's not something I would ever rewatch. I want to be optimistic about Season 2, but Netflix has a reputation of making soulless cash grabbing live actions (remember how we've all burned the live action Cowboy Bebop from our collective memories?).

I will say I liked the moon spirit taking over Aang and becoming a wondering spirit monster, that was a cool change ngl

Also this episode, 1. Iroh leads Zhao to the spirit pool (nice job buddy glad you defended them at the end when it was too late) 2. Zhao is killed by Zuko and Iroh (glad they murdered someone when Zuko's morality had him reach out and try and save Zhao at the end) 3. Zuko doesn't capture Aang (masterclass in payoff - don't have one. Also it's going to be real awkward when Iroh is scolding Zuko in Ba Sing Se when he is just as moronic in the plan making) 4. Infamously close cities of the N. Water Tribe capitol and Omashu (South Earth Kingdom) are incredible for a strategic military diversions! (also the fact Bumi just gets rolled here is crazy) 5. Yue is just some random princess (They never say she was saved by the moon spirit) 6. "AZULA IS SO SMART YOU GUYS! SHE'S NOT INSECURE SHE IS A PUPPETMASTER!!" (thanks for telling us and never showing us that)

Overall the series is definitely not deserving of a letter grade. It gets a P - Passible, but extremely Pointless and at times, Pathetic. The paper analogy is very bad for your grade because you forgot it is the same thing as copying a paper you used for an assignment last semester, but you cut out the paragraphs that link it to the old class. (Or just call it plagiarism)

Aang not really learning any waterbending in this season is also something I found very weird. It's like how Harry didn't cast a single spell in the first Harry Potter movie. Also, if I remember correctly, the production started with having the original writers on the team, but after some time, they left because of creative differences.

2 things I really wanna comment on. The first, they didnβt skip kataras training quite honestly. Throughout the show we saw her training on her own while even inventing new moves and displaying her ingenuity as a bender. In the og series, she never really trained that often. We got the waterbending scroll episode and that was pretty much it. Originally it seemed like she got a new skill every episode and was able to do more and more but we never saw how her skills progressed. In this show, her training followed the timeline it originally was, but it was just more. She practiced a lot by herself. For example, the part where she freezes jet in episode 4 took around the same amount of time for her to get to that point as it did originally. If anything, her progression in the og was more unrealistic bc of how much she was able to do when she only trained like once. She did a lot more with the scroll here and without it. Iβd also mention she trained w pakku barely 1 episode and then she was deemed a master so really not that much of a stretch. 2, Iβm just gonna be brutally honest. The plot wasnβt lost. They hit the bigger/more important points of the story which was the goal and changed things that could be without having a huge impact on the story. Like katara being self taught, or yue being a waterbender (which really didnβt mean much to the extent u made it seem) even things like the war balloon, zhaos death, Hahn being nice, zukos fight w katara, etc, pretty much all the little things that were changed didnβt affect the big plot points like yues sacrifice, pakku changing his ways, koizilla, the entire north fight, even azula being set off in the world, we still got there. Sorry this was a lengthy comment, just wanted to give my opinion. Enjoyed the reactions as always
