That is, the current rules prioritize dealing with a king in check, and that you're not allowed to move a king into check. If the king was treated as an ordinary piece under old rules, with the only caveat that the king being captured results in losing the game, then the current rules regarding check are just logical extensions of that. However, it also means that (unlike what I've thought all along) Schneizel's move isn't an illegal one. By the victory conditions of chess, it's a stupid one, but it's not an illegal one. I thought the quandry that Schneizel was presenting was this: let Schneizel violate the rules of chess, and secure a guaranteed victory(thrown victory though it may be), or call Schneizel on violating the rules, meaning needing to earn the victory and a potential loss later. (After all, even in official chess games, illegal moves have to be called by either the opponent or an arbiter while the match is in progress. You can make all the illegal moves you want if no one stops and calls you on it.)

But regarding Gutwold, 'Orange boy" The Brittanian scientist originally in charge of C2 at the start had to leave the area due to the acts of the black knights attacking, while attacking they ran into Guttwold i the middle of the road half dead having survived the new gurans radiation based attack, it screwed him up. In a later scene it shows him on the list of the dead, 'K.I.A' then a following scene showed him in a tank in suspended animation while he was hooked up to tubes and the like with the Brittanian scientist in the frame because of 'vitals dropping' or something. He then on hearing 'Zero' went into an emotional state, he woke up to 'early' at least that's what the scientist said because he wasn't 'ready'. Considering context it would be safe to assume that hes been altered in someway related to C2 and now V2 considering he's talking to them. They basically found a guinea pig that wouldn't die because of his pride, and it was good way to keep someone alive while also doing the experiments they wanted. Not 100% but the scenes I'm referring to have all already occurred and I don't if you're going to read this, but either way I hope this helps in terms of context to why he keeps popping up. If it wasn't Orange boy, it would of been someone else, he was just an already pre-established character that they could use that had obvious motive. Keep up the good work guys! ^^

Eventually, the players at the time realized that you could simply assume the last move after a checkmate and omit it from the game. Here, Schnizel is basically saying that he's willing to playout the game to the very end, even past the point where common sense would say you should admit defeat.
