yeah he's pretty cool.

Logan Midgett

Guys, did you think with all the necessity to keep his identity a secret that he wouldn't be hiding his voice? Its more noticeable in the JP but he has a voice modulator :P

Paragon Night

As to Lelouch's intellect what makes him such an incredible strategists is a multifaceted subject. The first component might surprise you but lets start with his genes. Lelouch is a direct descendent of a royal bloodline that has been constantly elevating the strongest and most cunning member to the top. This means that over time the epigenetic expression of stronger smarter faster wiser genes have been continually evolving in a cut throat kill or be killed to rule environment. Does this guarantee that every heir is destined to have these traits? Yes and no. Yes because the genetic blueprints will be there but no because a) the environment, causal experiences, and epigenetic expression and mutation will be variable and b) there is the other half of the bloodline coming from the mother that introduces the possibly of weaker genetics and epigenetic expression. Fun fact its stated in the cannon that the reason only Euphemia was able to resist the Geass is because this royal bloodline posesses a strong resonance with the power of Geass. This is also why those who were given geass in this line were so powerful. Now that is established lets look at the effects of Lelouch's childhood experiences on his development. We know that he was a child chess prodigy and would frequently beat one of his older brothers yet always lost to his other older brother. The show never mentions if he ever played with his father or the eldest brother, I doubt he did but he would certainly best Odysseus. This would mean that he was being trained in strategy from a young age. Furthermore he would likely have been exposed to military matters in some form and been expected to participate in some form when he was older. This primes him for the great trauma of his mothers death and his subsequent exile. He experiences an intense hatred and lust for revenge especially after the war is started. Hence the classic phrase, "I swear Sazaku, I will one day, obliterate Brittania!". This marks the point in Lelouch's life where he dedicates 100% of his mind into forming a schedule to accomplish this. For 7 years he then studies every type of subject possible to enhance his ability to achieve his goal. This puts him so far ahead of his fellow classmates that he finds school boring and skips classes to put his strategic mind into practical application by trying to challenge harder and harder opponents. His plan would have likely involved using anyone with power secret's and weaknesse's against them to subdue them into serving his cause to build a splinter cell inside until he was ready to stage a coup d'état. Fortunately C.C. gives him the power of Geass and he is able to then speed things up as the pieces fall into place. However, we see another part of Lelouch's brilliant intillect when he loses to Cornelia. Up until this point he had only been in command of one real battle. All the other experience he had in stragety and tactics was chess. So he makes the mistake of treating the battle as a chess match where both players start on an equal playing field and where the pieces always move when you tell them to. However he immediately realizes this, learns from his mistake, and then devises a plan to create his own military force. He then uses the environment in Narita to create unfair conditions for his opponent and would have won if Sazaku didn't join the battle. Furthermore we see his ability to think moves ahead of his opponent when he traps Cornelia. Now we come to the point of this essay and why what you guys discussed made me what to explain. Lelouch is a brilliant stategist not only because he has a superior intellect, experience in practical application of stategy, or an ability to learn from failure, but because he is able to read the pattern of peoples natures. This is why he was able to arrange Kallen needing a shower in ep 3, or what Mao will say in his prerecorded message. With enough intel on someones mind he can see their unconscious nature and predict accurately what they will do. This is the most vital aspect for good strategy to work because if he can't read your opponent then they may counter you unexpectedly. This is why both Lelouch and Cornelia set their plans for the battle at Aris Villa. Cornelia knew was able to predict Zero's nature that he would come to take out the air forces then invade from the top, while Lelouch was able to predict the pattern of Cornelia's nature that she would lay a trap for Zero once air reinforcements arrived. What makes Lelouch's intellect and strategic mind so brilliant is that he had already come to this conclusion in the stadium moments after his plans had changed and he was unexpectedly presented with an opportunity to lay the trap. His ability to quickly and efficiently work out every possible scenario and their outcomes 15 to 20 moves in advance is what makes him one of the greatest strategists in anime of all time. All hail Lelouch!

Jonathan Spencer

Oh, was also forgot to add that when the Emperor says "now you are worthy of being my child" he was talking about Euphy since she started open fire on the Japanese, he thrives off of war and oppression

First Grade Sorcerer - Day

I think you mean *is supposed to be a mystery 😉 the reveal of who she is speaking to and how is later in season 2 I think

Day

So about how he used geass on those workers to blow up the ground under britannian forces‼️ The show hints that they started the command after Lelouch says "Surrender at midnight" or something similar since the first guy repeats it and then gets started, eyes red etc :) so Lelouch used geass on a person in charge of each sector to explode once they hear him say certain trigger words! Just a fun tidbit about it, I don't think they fully explain it outright in the show

First Grade Sorcerer - Day

I dunno man something weird about picking up an injured girl, keeping her around cause she presumably has information on your boss, and forming a relationship with her when you know she doesn't even know who she is lol

No Consequence

Don’t act like you ain’t gonna be down bad if you were in his position

Kollie123

I don't know who I dislike more: Villetta for being responsible for basically everything that goes wrong or Ohgi for being stupid enough to form a relationship with her in the first place.

Atticus Omundson

Hey guys are you gonna do a double premier for season 2? Episodes 1 and 2 are widely recommended to be watched together

Kade Massey

This episode surely shows how much details they forgot/didn't notice not only over the show so far but what happened in this episode it self huh

AonixGhostlyQ

Not just the name, Lelouch is shocked that she recognized it on sight.

Holo Kleros

oh for sure XD still one of my fave cliffhangers ever

Eric C

Just wait until next week's cliffhanger, I'm pretty sure they'll rage for a bit. XD

Fukkyu Bisch

Please don't attack me for this, but you've forgotten/missed some things and I don't want it to cause tons of confusion. First of all the person that CC is talking to is not supposed to be a mystery now. I'll avoid explicitly saying it. Second, you know what Aries Villa is as well (it's where Lelouch grew up) and this is the recreation of it built by Clovis. Lelouch is shocked because CC knows the name.

Cat_Sidhe

Unfortunately you guys did get a bit 'lost in the sauce' as they say. The reveal of that girl getting her memories happened previously and the maid I don't think was any conspiracy they were unravelling and revealing. To my memory been a decade tho since my last watch :D

Peter Amet

One detail of note to remember since it doesn't really come up in the show itself. Most people in show don't know about the limitation Lelouch has on his geas

Darthwin Wright

What did Montana Major in or do you just ask her everything because she is so smart hahaha!

Peter Amet

Well keep in Mind lelouch only gets one shot per target with his geass, he could geass 2 leaders to make peace but how does he get to them, and then theres going to be all the people underneath them. If zero forces leaders to a peace accord, if the people below don't agree its just gonna lead to a coup and at that point whats his last option? Mind control everyone who disagrees to permanently agree?

TrixieTurner

This

Raven Kesterson

correction next episode and the next season :D

Connla Lyons

and yes, i agree with you guys that there *are* better ways to use Geass; unfortunately, Lelouch was radicalized from a VERY young age so there's just no going back on that for him

Eric C

i love how mad you guys get at the cliffhangers lmao

Eric C

I greatly enjoy these reactions and the insights you both bring to the characters' psyche and how situations bring about a change in thought or action depending on a certain person's personality. However, my only disconnect is the misremembering of names. It's understandable because of how many shows you both watch and the amount of characters to keep track of, but it feels like you lose some key information by putting names aside. This in turn leads to mixing up information because names come up so often for characters and places that are mentioned off-screen, and trying to associate a name with a face gets confusing when they haven't been on-screen for a length of time if you hadn't established that connection. But, seeing the moment Kenny makes that connection with what happened with Darlton and Cornelia this week; Montana's OMG. *Pacha Perfect* I do love both of your theories for what may occur, and with that cliffhanger, I'm looking forward to next week!

Rin

Gotta give Cornelia credit at the end of the episode, she’s basically in just a standard knightmare yet her skill lets her run circles around lelouch while he’s in a knightmare that’s so powerful its single handedly able to have a major impact on every fight it’s in Lelouch lucking into getting the Gawain really changed the overall strength of the black knights

Kollie123

RE - the "spy"/"collaborator" Sayoko Shinozaki (the maid) can be thought of as Lelouch/Nunnally's Alfred. She's been on the side of the Black Knights since the start and was working with them via Diethard (the Media guy). In a previous episode, Lelouch smiled when he heard her name from Diethard (implying he knew). She still deeply cares/is loyal to Lelouch/Nunnally because of her time with them.

AetherAlchemist

Villeta’s memory return happens at a glance. Last episode she was attacked by the men who broke into Ohji’s place. I’m guessing she got her memory back when she had to defend herself.

Jenifer Bamaca

RE - Villetta regaining memory You do see her regain her memory at the 15:47 point of the video when Oghi is on the phone with her. She is walking out of the apartment after fighting the people who broke into her apartment (in the previous epsiode- when she is calling Oghi because she's worried). It's implied the interaction/fighting/hitting/being hit brought her memory back.

AetherAlchemist

As for Viletta(cant remember spelling), there was a quick 4 second scene where she killed the 3 or so people that showed up at her home, giving the impression that her memories returned when she was about to be killed.

Gwendolyn Vrisala

So I assume we are not covering the mini series "Akio the Exile" that takes place between this episode and the next season?

Connla Lyons

I was going to comment about the "sleeper agent" theory but Montana was on it quite fast haha
