I know I'm saying this super late bet in regards to the hero law I think if it were real I think it should be held up like how gun laws work in the us. if its in self defense that's ok but you are responsible for an collateral damage. like if I'm being mugged and I shoot 5 shots , 3 hit the bad guy and 2 hit an innocent person I'm still liable for that innocent person

2024-02-24 00:41:50 +0000 UTCIda went looking for the villian, and I agree with you on his case. Deku and Todoroki were searching for their friend and had every right to go where they please to do so. If you wander in to the midst of a mugging and you defend the victim, you don't get in trouble just because you didn't call the police. People have the God given right to defend themselves and others from harm.

2023-10-25 13:52:53 +0000 UTCThey didn’t defend themselves they went off alone to somewhere they knew a dangerous criminal could be. If I think a guy might be holding my wife hostage and instead of telling the police I grab my shot gun and bust down his door I’m still gonna get in trouble even if he attacks me when I do and even if I save my wife

2023-10-22 03:44:01 +0000 UTCStain didn’t attack them. They attacked him. You could argue defense of a third person but ida didn’t know native was in danger when he went looking for stain and midoriya had enough time to think and react that he legally should have at least gotten permission and backup from another hero (this in top of the fact that he broke rules when he left the train against gran Torino’s orders). Shoto has the best case but even then going off alone without actually getting endeavors permission or taking him with him is still reckless and a violation. People always make this a self defense issue and it’s not, it’s an issue of the appropriate workings of justice. You can’t just have people lurking in back alleys looking for criminals to fight.

2023-10-22 03:40:42 +0000 UTCI fundamentally disagree with the chief, if someone attacks you, you get to defend yourself, whether that be with hands, guns or quirks makes no difference. This is actually one of my issues with anime overall, the don't kill or fight back ideology it often has is disgusting to me.

2023-10-21 00:58:20 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure principal Nezu is the only confirmed animal with a quirk in the anime, police chief is more likely a human with a dog quirk

2023-10-13 18:43:32 +0000 UTCfor the law I've always thought about it like a gun law. If you have an unlicensed gun and you use it on someone threatening you, then you would still get in trouble for using the unlicensed gun.

2023-10-13 04:22:31 +0000 UTCKenny has seen the show, speaking of Kenny if you don't read the manga or news such I'd reccomend skipping the 3rd movie. I do not know if others have the same opinion so just throwing it but they aren't really canon and Horikoshi has said some (not spoiling) stuff of the film is based on his plans for the final MHA stuff. So imo it could ruin the experience seeing a non canon movie do X before the big finale happens with X. But yk up to you, they did release it and publicly discuss the X thing if you wanna find out. :)

2023-10-13 04:21:23 +0000 UTCKenny, bubbi! It was right there! It writes itself, and you missed it! "Stain-stan"!

2023-10-12 21:50:21 +0000 UTCThe fact that Shirguraki is about to get a bunch of Stain fanatics when he was trying to kill Stain is kinda funny

2023-10-12 19:46:32 +0000 UTCI think the issue with the police department trying to punish them hinges on this: They were defending themselves. Self-defense, quirk or not, should always be legal. The fact that they were standing between stain and his victim are irrelevant. Stain attacked them with lethal force and they defended themselves. Regardless of licensing, that should never be illegal. The only person I could see facing legal consequences would be Ida who intentionally sought out the criminal, evading the supervision of his mentor to do so.

2023-10-12 18:44:38 +0000 UTCThere's actually a term for the growing interest people have the more that the Stain videos are being censored and taken down; the Streisand effect

2023-10-12 17:18:06 +0000 UTCI think that's a general issue with laws. They are often very rigid and don't always consider the exceptions when they're created. I think the idea is that if exceptions are written into a law, people will abuse it. It's up to the court system to decide if and what punishment is needed on a case-by-case basis. It's not until a large public case happens that the government is pressured into changing a law once it's passed though. It's possible that if the police force had gone and punished the kids there would have been a large public outcry, especially considering how well they performed in the sports festival- a lot of people know who they are. That could potentially have pressured the government into changing it.

2023-10-12 16:27:40 +0000 UTCThe problem is that it should only apply to the person who showed up for his revenge. From the other two, it was to protect everyone else there. Midorya had to stand his ground because he could not precisely take both targets to safety, and by the time Shoto came to the scene, he would have to figure out how to get three incapacitated people to safety while defending against Stain. The law reads like it came about during the chaotic time of Quirks, and rather than make adjustments to make it better when things became more stable, it was left unaltered and bent depending on the situation.

2023-10-12 16:12:47 +0000 UTCYeah, I totally get why it wouldn't apply to ida. But his screw up shouldn't mean the other two get in trouble when they WERE protecting people and not trying to be vigilantes. I just find it odd (and I can't remember if the sub translation said it any different) that his specific wording is "you can't use your quirk to cause injury unless your licensed" which certainly gives the notion that you can't defend yourself with your quirk. But hopefully there would an amendment or something that covers that.

2023-10-12 16:12:06 +0000 UTCOhh that’s a good point. I haven’t seen it in a while, so forgot that it kinda takes for granted that the viewer has also read the manga

2023-10-12 16:00:55 +0000 UTCYou're slowly approaching Season 3, and I CANNOT WAIT!!!
Gestrid
2023-10-12 15:58:45 +0000 UTCThe movie takes place before S3, but it's probably best to watch it after the tie-in episode in S3 for... reasons. (The movie "reveals" All for One earlier than intended if you watch it first.)

2023-10-12 15:57:52 +0000 UTCThere's a bug in the Patreon app that's causing videos uploaded to Vimeo and embedded here not to load. It works if you go to the website instead of using the app on either a phone or computer, though.

2023-10-12 15:55:19 +0000 UTCThere are probably self defense laws, but all that went out the window when Iida went after the villain for his own gain instead of for trying to save Native. In an ideal society, all laws must be applied equally to all people, and, in order for the police to appear just (if the true story went public), they would have to reprimand them somehow. For better or worse, this isn't an ideal society, though. The police could bend the laws in this case to help Iida and the others out and allow them to learn from their errors.

2023-10-12 15:53:51 +0000 UTCThat "look for the helpers" quote is from Mister Rogers! The full quote, which he originally said after 9/11, is: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people that are helping.'"

2023-10-12 15:30:23 +0000 UTCSide note: Are you guys gunna watch the movies as well? Only asking cause the first movie happens before Season 3. And are you skipping the filler episode (the next one)?
Danny C
2023-10-12 15:27:35 +0000 UTCNo, in Ida's case it was DEFINITELY not self defense. He went LOOKING for, and then attacked stain first. He probably lucked out that Native likely vouched for him since he literally kept him from getting killed. I wasn't talking about that though.
Jinchuriki87
2023-10-12 15:23:54 +0000 UTCI mean was Ida trying to defend himself or chase after a villian lead and kill somone. It's the later he actively was not telling authorities or Hero's what he knew or was doing and was planning on ending stains life. It's textbook vigilante. It would be diffrent if Ida just happened to come across stain or was attacked. Hell if he at least called manual and informed him he was trying to save Native and get away he would have a case but nine of that happened.

2023-10-12 15:21:01 +0000 UTCRemember the fight started with the kids because Ida actively chased after the villan and tried to stop him. In this situation by law he should have called authorities or gotten the pros help instead which could have made stain run away either way. States and countries have similar laws where you can't go after a criminal fleeing or try to stop a crime with lethal force vigilante style. Also think of it this way a quick is nearly the power if not more so of every citizen having a gun on them. The new rule is basically trying to prevent citizens taking things into their hands all the time with their new found powers which can cause even more collateral to people and property.
PKKite
2023-10-12 15:19:06 +0000 UTCOh I get that. Which is fine for this particular situation. However, the law is still there, and it feels they only manipulated it this time because it benefits the police and heroes, and were lucky it had so few witnesses. But say someone was trying to attack kendo, is she not allowed to go big hands and beat the shit out of them to defend herself?

2023-10-12 15:07:45 +0000 UTCSide note: I love how you plugged in All for ones theme after the reveal! (If you did it before I must have missed it) and you need a counter for 4th wall breaks this episode 🤣. I LOVE Montana's breakdown of the potential connection with stains ideology. Finally, thanks for answering my question!
Jinchuriki87
2023-10-12 15:01:30 +0000 UTCI think most people forget because how wild quirks can get, but the police chief and UA principal are not humans with quirks that make them look like a dog or a mouse, they’re a dog and a mouse with quirks that give them anthropomorphic features. So even non-human animals have quirks, and I think that idea can be both amazing and terrifying.

2023-10-12 15:00:57 +0000 UTCSo many can't see do people really watch videos on the phone? I am too old I guess I feel like you can't even see the anime Picture in Picture on a 5 inch screen?
Peter Amet
2023-10-12 14:56:22 +0000 UTCI think they do a poor job at explaining the general issue with what you’re talking about, but in the context of the situation, I think they explained it like that to build up the “twist” decision by the police chief.
Danny C
2023-10-12 14:52:50 +0000 UTCThis is one of the few times I take issue with the logistics in the show. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but it essentially sounds like someone with a quirk is unable to defend themselves WITH their quirk. That seems insanely stupid to me.
