Animated commercial, "Waiting Room"

Another little addition to the weekly update. It happened recently that the commercial project that I had participated in producing at The Animation Workshop came out on Plastic Change's sites. 

I worked as co-director on the project together with Anne Flarup, and the rest of the team was made up of these awesome people: Simone Linn Skorstad, Jasmin Christoffersen, Timon Chapelon, Bernar Aganchyan Simon Furbo Christiansen and Maya Eileen Mckibbin. I myself was only able to be there during the pre-production before my trip to Korea, so that means up until the DLO. 

Still, it was very interesting to prepare for a 3D project. While I definitely prefer 2D myself I got some cool insight into the project by working alongside the awesome CG artists.

Our most critical moment during pre-production was probably when we had to finish the animatic in time for the deadline. We had re-done the animatic countless times, but hadn't been able to get it quite right with the 30-second limitation. At this point it was right the day before we had to show it off to the teachers, and it seemed important to raise the work morale by having something finished and neat-looking. So in the end Anne, Jasmin and I stayed at school all night to re-do what we had so far. It was hard work, but it was a pretty cool experience. I would draw what we needed and notes for it on small sticky-notes and deal them out. The two others would draw out all the poses and I'd put it all together in After Effects in the meanwhile. We were able to avoid most bottlenecks in this way.

I've attached the final animatic (V12) we ended up with below, as well as some earlier versions. It may be interesting to some to see the how the short commercial evolved.
