Hello everyone,
In the middle of April 1st with the tons of stupid things you'll see around the internet, I've made the choice of simply posting something utterly normal. There are enough bad news these days, I don't really feel to make you go emotional for nothing :x
So, this post is going to be quick. I wanted to wait later to show this to you because it's not finished but oh well, I guess it doesn't hurt. I'm just going to show you how conversations will look. A simple post with screenshots. Everything opposite to the previous post :p
This is the choice I made in terms of facesets. There are way too many characters to go through SoV2/NP full-size sprites style again, but at the same time, simple facesets like SoVO or SoS feel a bit small. So I chose an in-between. I realized it was a good idea while playing Rhapsody: A music adventure (which has sprites like that going outside the frame of the textbox). And as a result, I have to say that I like it a lot.
It was A LOT of work to set up mainly because this was the first job of the colorist so there were lots of back and forth, corrections and stuff (and reasons I can't reveal yet :x). But the result is very good. It feels refreshing to have a decent size for facesets. Feels like you can enjoy characters more. You can also see the coloring style we're adopting here. I wanted to stick to Butakoma's coloring style as close as possible so that people aren't too lost if they discover SoVR after playing SoVO. One last thing to mention is a specific decision I've taken about the placement of those sprites. They will ALL be on the left side. You know it's always a pain in the ass to deal with mirrored images (especially when characters have asymetrical designs like Mari, or worse, Reiko (with her eyes)), and I realized in the middle of my P3R run that all characters were on a single side of the screen and it didn't bother me at all. So I made that choice here. It's much easier to handle and this way, there will be no risk of inconsistency between models :p
However, as I mentioned above, the rest isn't finished. We have a placeholder as UI for now. Even if I bought this, I'm not satisfied. We've made tests to try other things. It's not easy (UI never is anyway, you know how much we suck at this), but we're making slow progresses.
I'll show you once it's finished, of course.
That's all for today. We now have a single month left to do everything. I don't know how things are going to progress but I'll keep you updated regularly, as always.
See ya o/
