Slice of Venture Remake Diary #3

Before I show the post, I'd like to thank those of you who've already made the transfer of tier. All the high tiers have moved, meaning I was able to delete the old versions of those tiers since they were empty. If you haven't done it, don't forget to switch your tier. Thank you :)

I was supposed to make a post about mapping, but I'll do it next time. Don't worry, I have enough to say about mapping that I can hold two posts with just that (Yeeeee *Unhappy patron noise*)

Today, we're going to talk about one of the star of Slice of Venture: Naomi.

When I started working on SoV back in the days, the game was supposed to feature two new characters that were supposed to be the center of the game (outside the sisters, of course): Naomi & Reiko. And unlike the other characters, these two were designed by specific people.

I won't go over all the creation process (it's in the artbook), but like with the sisters, I'm showing you the result from back then.

There were a couple of key features of course. The shy part, the silver hair, the clothes not showing skin and something probably many people forgot during SoV2 development: the fact she's an otaku (the things she's holding in her back are doujins.)

In another world, I wouldn't have minded going back to that design. It's nice. BUT: SoV2 and more importantly, Naomi's Past came out in the meantime. So having a combo long-sleeve + skirt for the 3rd time was out of the question. But at the same time, I didn't want to change her style too much. So I searched for a way to keep the same idea with different clothes. And I arrived to that conclusion.

A combo of dress with pants. The idea was to keep the wool effect of her pullover while removing the patterns (they just don't work in that precise case.) It keeps the slight up collar she originally had, though. Then we accompanied the whole thing with a pair of jeans because she never wore any so it was a good opportunity to try it while keeping a "skirt" look that is so dear to her wardrobe.

Some of you maybe noticed? She has a choker. And you know why? Because it was requested by the donator AND it was inside the very first rough. I've NEVER asked for it to be removed. It just disappeared at some point, we all forgot about it and here am I, ten years later, realizing it should've been a thing from the start. What better occasion than a remake to add it? So here it is :p

But after all this, while I liked this design I thought it was maybe a good idea to be a bit more daring. And I thought: characters don't have head accessories other than glasses usually. What if were to give someone a hat? Wouldn't Naomi be a good candidate? (especially with that outfit.) In that case again I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted so it was quick.

After a couple of images, I found that this last hat was actually perfect. We only had to color everything.

We tried different colors but black looked the best on her (it's a nice contrast with how colorful the rest of the cast it. And the blue jeans don't make the overall result too dark so it's fine.) And once I saw that I was like: Okay, she never had her choker, she never wore a hat... But there's still a TINY thing I'd like to tweak: she never showed skin either. So I asked Peak to try a thing or two that could show skin but on Naomi level (so nothing extravagant).

That was nice but I wasn't fan of the pattern. This is a shirt/laces pattern, not something fitting for a woollen dress. In the end we chose something pretty basic but that always work:

Bare shoulders.

And that's it. This is the final design of Naomi. How do you like it? I love it. She looks adorable, shy, trendy... I have to admit that if I make a comparison with the kind of girls I tend to go for in games when I have a choice, they're often leaning towards girls like her (For those of you who play(ed) Persona 3 reload (or even the original one), my date is/was Chihiro.) So yeah, I really happy we gave her such a nice outfit. She deserves it :D

Next time, I promise I'll give you some mapping posts. I'm sure you'll be eager 8D
