The New Brothel

Hello everyone,


It's time to talk about the new brothel.


I prefer warning you right now. I have a single image to share with you and it's VERY barebone.

The reason is that Hime always work on programming before moving to UI. Coding-wise, it's more or less done. There are probably things to tweak but the majority is done. And we've put the work on the UI on the side for now as there are many small things I asked her ^^'


I'd like to add something else. For the first time, she and I didn't agree on the global look so I decided to let her do everything without saying anything. You'll be the ones to judge when it's ready, and if everyone thinks it looks bad, we'll revamp it with my own ideas :x


Anyway, here's the pre-alpha screen.



As I said earlier, it's very barebone. I probably won't detail everything there as I feel like despite the screen looking bland as hell, I'll have a lot of things to explain. So that'll give me some content for a future post x)


This revamp was made with a single idea in mind: Keeping the "easiness" of use of the current brothel. Basically, all you have to do here is click on clickable areas and select girls or creatures. And then click on Start. That's all.


We also made it so that people who don't give a damn about the brothel can still use it by clicking randomly. Of course, it won't be optimal at all and if you want to earn the maximum money per night, it'll be better to check the different elements.


Since it can be a huge mess to describe everything, I'll go over two things for this post: the overall view (the screenshot) and the changes with the previous brothel. And before someone comes to make the joke, yes Vitamin Quest 2 crossed my path and yes it helped me improving.


1) Everything in one night


That's one of the biggest change but now, you don't have to choose whether you want to open the female or the creature part of the brothel. Everything will be accessible every night. After playing the current brothel it sounded like an evidence to me. And probably to most of you :x


2) Brothel categories


As you can see on the screenshot, there are 5 categories. "Women", "Leisure", "Creatures", "At Home" and "Training". Those are all place holder names, I don't know if or how we'll rename them. Anyway, you guys already know about the "Women" and "Creatures" category. It's what you can find in the current brothel.


Leisure was always meant to be implemented, I just didn't reach that far. Basically, each floor will have the possibility to build specific places meant to improve the brothel and turn it into something more than just "a place to fuck" (even if most of those place are meant to be sex-related, of course.)


I won't reveal much, but the first of those place is meant to become a bar. If you're wondering the use of those cum vials you grab on the zombie dogs, you now have your answer. Collecting those vials and serving cocktails with those flavour will give the player extra money.


So in addition to having girls servicing customers for sex, you'll also have the possibility to make one of them work in that bar to attract more customers and earn more money. That will also lead to other things that I'll detail in another post.


The category "At Home" is straight up ripped off VQ2. Unlike VQ2 where the girl becomes automatically unavailable for at least one week, here, it can be for a single night. It will depend on the request of the customer. That category is meant to have more picky clients whose conditions are harder to meet, but if you do, you'll be able to earn more money than during a "normal" night.


And lastly, the "Training" part. You already know it a bit as it's used to Kaya to train creatures. And that part remains. However...


Kaya will ALSO be able to train girls in the future. Those training will increase the girl's experience faster but as a counterpart, said girl won't bring any money for the night (obviously). Needless to say that training a girl or a creature also prevents Kaya from being hired for anything else in the brothel.


That's all for the quick overview of the different parts.



3) Removal/Change in stats


In the current brothel, there are quite a good amount of stats. Rank, Stamina, Look, Fetish Level, Motivation, Adaptability, Bonus, Malus, Salary, Experience...


We kept some and ditched others. Basically, I ditched everything I deemed too vague for the player (Motivation and Adaptability), everything that could be formated into the new gameplay (Look, Fetish Level, Bonus & Malus) and I also ditched Stamina because that was an extra layer that I felt could be removed without preventing fun (on the contrary, actually.)


So what does it mean?


The easiest thing you can picture is the removal of stamina. Now, each girl has ONE customer per night and that's all. No need to make things overcomplicated. Especially considering the main gameplay element revolves around the fact that there should be only one customer per girl.


Motivation and adaptability were basically stats that influenced either the raise of probability of a special bonus (Motivation) or added a multiplicator on the bonus money earned (Adaptability). It wasn't written anywhere (yet) but to give you a simple example, Kaya's motivation gives her 2% chance to earn +$5 per customer at rank F. Of course, that's low as fuck, but at rank S she was supposed to reach 10 points of stamina and a 15% chance per customer to earn those extra $5, which are making things much more interesting. Anyway we dropped all that. Nothing will replace those.


The Bonus, Malus & Fetish Level are all going to blend into the new system I'll detail in the next post.


Until now, as you can see, I mainly removed stuff to avoid making things to complicated. The only thing where I "added" values is for the "look".


If you remember well, currently, the Look is meant to be used as a core value for customers. If a girl has a Look under the request of the customer, she loses one stamina point and move on to the next customer. EVERYTHING in that gameplay loop has been removed. Stamina and mandatory look.


Now, the Look is grouped with 2 other stats: Charisma and Profesionalism (name not definitive either.) Those values will evolve with their ranking up OR by working in the leisure parts (remember the bar? You can raise professionalism by working there for example.) The values are a basic 1 to 100 and each girl can reach the max values, given time. Of course, they won't progress at the same speed depending on their personality or the way you make them progress, but given enough time, those stats are NOT meant to have different maximum between the girls (this is mainly done so that people can chose the girls they want without having to worry about potential limits.)


And what are those stats used for? Well, for different things. I won't detail everything here, but they'll play a key role in the leisure places. They will also possibly be used in the classic brothel part but to a lesser extent.


4) What remains in the end?


If you managed to read everything up to now without getting bored, then you can probably find it yourself :p


The Rank is kept (as well as experience, of course). The girls will always improve their rank up an S rank with stats and benefits increases until there.


There is still the whole fetish concept (but I keep that for the next post)


The amount earned/paid to the girls. That's logical to keep this one too. I won't detail how the money earned will work (next post too), but it's normal to retain the fact that each girl must be paid every night.




The fact that I'm explaining everything with words and not with tons of picture will probably worry some of you, but don't worry. It'll be easy :p Like, there's no wrong answers, only average to perfect ones. I still have to detail quite a lot of things and I feel like those explanations are going to cover the rest of the posts until the release ^^'

The girls will have a predefined list of fetishes. Some will be unlocked right away while other will need them to get higher ranks. You will understand why in the next post (there has to be a good balance of shared and unique values to keep some difference between the girls).

Will all the girls eventually be able to be trained into every fetish? Or are characters restricted to specific fetishes and don't develop new ones with stuff like training or new rank? Anyway, lots of good stuff! the streamlining of mechanics seems like a great idea, especially the 1 customer/night thing. Reduces a lot of unnecessary bloat in the system.
