The Ballad of Triumph

In the fading light, the Citadel was alive with the sound of victory—Guardians shouting their triumph over the fleeing darkness of the Kraxian horde. From his vantage point, Zero watched, a mix of pride and sorrow in his heart. The battle had been won, but at what cost? The city below was a tapestry of destruction, woven with the cries of those who had suffered loss.

"Move fast! We need to help them!" Zero commanded, his voice a beacon in the chaos. He led the charge, Guardians swooping down to douse flames and rescue the trapped and injured. When Zero touched down, reality hit him hard. Young guardians, who should have been playing, lay motionless, victims of a surprise attack. Homes, once filled with the warmth of families, now lay in ruins.

This moment of victory felt hollow to Zero. The sight of devastation around him served as a stark reminder of the war's true cost. As the smoke curled into the sky, it seemed to ask a haunting question: what was the price of their victory or was this the  will of Cael and what would be left of their world when the dust settled?

Vorim landed softly beside Zero, his voice heavy with the weight of loss. "We must forge ahead. Those we've lost are now with Cael. It's the survivors who need us."

As they rose towards The Citadel's core, a silent understanding passed between them. The council chamber doors swung open, revealing the expectant faces of the Generals.

"Zero," Yanus greeted, his nod laden with unspoken words.

Vorim, unable to contain his urgency, cut in. "We're faced with the fracture of Anima and the whole realm."

Zero, standing firm, addressed the assembly. "Was the Kraxian assault merely an attempt to obliterate our bastion of light?"

Mihr, hesitant yet resolved, added, "Or perhaps, Kraxus wanted to extend control over all Anima?" Her voice echoed the fears lurking in their hearts.

"Mihr, assess what's left of the third division. I need to know the extent of these new realms," commanded Zero, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

Turning to Vorim, his expression softened slightly. "And you, gather the seventh for the rites. We honor our fallen."

As the council delved deeper, the air grew thick with tension and diverging convictions.

Yanus broke the silence, "The citizens must hear from us."

Abraxos, ever stoic, agreed. "Yes, to reassure them of our unwavering control."

Yanus, his patience fraying, challenged him. "Control? Is that what we are calling?” he paused “Today was chaos incarnate. And Acheron's betrayal..." His voice trailed off, the weight of the name suffusing the room with a palpable unease.

Zero's hands moved to his temples, trying to soothe away the haunting memories that were creeping back…

Zero launched at Arawn with a swift strike, but Arawn sidestepped, countering with a powerful smack that sent Zero flying back. Undeterred, Zero drew his pistol, firing rapidly. Arawn's shield flared to life, vaporizing the bullets upon impact.

Zero, not missing a beat, charged again. This time, instead of engaging directly, he aimed low, sliding and knocking Arawn off his feet with a deft sweep of his leg. The ground trembled under Arawn's fall, but the beast was quick to recover, hurling himself at Zero with unchecked rage, seizing him by the throat and slamming him into the ground with devastating force.

Switching tactics, Zero fired his pistol point-blank, finding chinks in Arawn's scaly armor. Arawn recoiled, but retaliated with a lash of his tail, sending Zero crashing against a wall. With agility, Zero evaded a fiery projectile, retaliated by embedding his spear into Arawn's leg, and in a fluid motion, extracted it during a backflip, slashing across Arawn's visage. Enraged, Arawn struck Zero squarely, propelling him back.

As Arawn advanced, Zero, battered but unbroken, took to the skies, enveloping himself in a blinding light. Concentrating the ethereal energy into a sphere, he prepared to vanquish the darkness. But then, an unexpected pain—Xyphos, a weapon of light, somehow breached his defenses, a feat unthinkable unless... unless the unthinkable had occurred.

Zero realized the harrowing truth: only by extinguishing a pure and innocent Anima could such a betrayal happen. "Acheron, what have you done?" he thought as light and realization engulfed him, turning his world to white.

Realizing the gravity of his actions, Zero understood the fracture of the Primordial Realms as a direct result of his failure, a bitter acknowledgment that their victory had paved the way for new challenges, problems and responsibilities.

“It is not up to us to question the will of Cael” Zero stated.

In the silence that followed Zero's declaration, a heavy weight settled over the council chamber, each general grappling with the implications of their recent actions and the unforeseen consequences that now loomed large. The room, once filled with the clamor of debate and the clashing of wills, fell into a contemplative hush, as if the very walls were holding their breath, waiting for what would come next.

Zero stood, his gaze sweeping over the assembled faces, each marked by the burdens of command and the scars of battle. "Our path forward is fraught with uncertainty," he admitted, his voice resonant with the authority of one who had faced the abyss and returned to tell the tale. "But it is our duty to navigate these troubled waters, for the sake of those we protect and love, and for the future of our realm."

Zero's resolve crystallized as he stood before the council, a mixture of guilt and determination etching his features. "Kraxus will not rest," he began, the weight of his failure pressing down on him, a harsh reminder of the pride that had led them to this precarious moment. "He seeks to invade the newly fractured realms, aiming to taint the innocent Anima with his corruption." His voice, though steady, carried an undercurrent of remorse, acknowledging his part in their current plight.

"It falls upon us," Zero continued, the burden of leadership and his own errors making his next words all the more poignant, "to shield these realms from his dark ambitions. We must spread the light of Cael far and wide, ensuring it illuminates even the darkest corners of these new worlds." The room, filled with the leaders of their community, hung on his every word, sensing the depth of his conviction and the personal responsibility he felt for their shared future.

"This is more than our duty; it is our atonement," Zero admitted, laying bare the guilt that fueled his determination. "My pride led us here, but now, our collective resolve will be our redemption. Together, we'll protect the Anima, uphold the balance, and keep the light of Cael burning bright against all odds." His declaration served not just as a strategy against Kraxus but as a personal vow to right the wrongs his pride had wrought, uniting them in a common cause fueled by a shared desire for redemption.
