Friday Update on a Sunday! February 16, 2020

Hello, Patrons and non-Patrons alike!

I got my 1080 Ti video card! But I went through an ordeal, which is why I am so late on the Friday update. Here's the story:

I bought the video card on ebay last week, as I mentioned. It arrived on Friday. I wasn't sure it would fit my old case, and I had a 500w power supply, so I bought a new case and power supply as well, which arrived the day prior.

It turned out that the 1080 Ti is actually 2-3mm shorter than the 1060 I had. I got everything installed on Friday afternoon and turned the PC on... and nothing. I had to take a trip for a few hours and run some errands, and I decided while troubleshooting the problem I'd move everything over to the new case.

Then I had a problem with the new case, because it used a weird adapter that wasn't fitting right until I finally forced it together out of frustration.

I put everything together in the new case, turned it on... and nothing. 

So I went to bed, defeated. On Saturday I took everything out and did what I should have done before moving everything to the new case - I set the motherboard on a box and hooked it up to my old power supply. It powered on just fine.

So I had to drive a couple hours to Best Buy in some pretty bad snowy conditions to buy another power supply. I put everything together, turned the computer on... and nothing.

Then I remembered there's a switch to turn the power supply on. :) I turned that on, and turned the computer on... success! What a pain in the ass. I was without a computer for about 36 hours.

So the good news is I'm now rocking a 1080 Ti video card, which will make the renders significantly faster and allow me to do some things I was previously unable to do.

The bad news is I lost 36 hours of rendering, which is significant. As a result, I still don't have a firm release date for you, but I am hoping I will be mostly finished with 0.4 by the end of the week.

Thank you for your support and allowing me to upgrade. It was a painful upgrade, but it should allow me to make a much better VN going forward.
