This episode is not without merit, mainly the idea of Joxer actually killing someone for the first time. But, unfortunately, they took the very interesting character that Najara was in her first appearance and did an incredibly lame about face, just turning her into a crazy bad guy who winds up in a coma (with no apparent intravenous method of feeding her.) Whatever reason they had for this awful creative decision, they sure went ahead and made it.

I thought she was pretty clearly putting on an act to lure Najara into a trap to make her fight recklessly...and it worked. One thing we know about Xena is while she loves gabrielle beyond anything else and can surely get jealous, she's not possessive at all. Quite the opposite in fact. She's the type to be jealous, spiral into feeling like she's not worthy of gabrielle, then try to leave gabrielle 'for her own good'. Lol - that's xena specialty. If you're talking this Najara episode, I didn't see the possessiveness (or treating gabrielle like an object) from Xena either. Of the two, I would say Gabrielle is much more the possessive jealous type.

Like she was some kind of prize or trophy to be won. It was cool to see, but at the same time, icky as fuck. I’m inclined to agree with Gabrielle’s statement to Brunhilda in ‘The Ring’ regarding that whole situation, “You’re going to shed blood over/for me? You’re sick!”

She speaks a lot of truth the fears Xena has about her relationship to Gabrielle. Also I think it's adorable that it's season 4 and you still smile everytime Lucy Lawless comes on screen as Xena.
