I definitely understand why this episode can be too much for some, but I find it quite funny. I agree with the other poster who said it was especially unsual and brave at the time to have both of your 'attractive female leads' be flat out disgusting all episode long lol. Side note: i adore Xena & Argo's relationship

2024-11-16 23:44:11 +0000 UTCI can’t say that I’m too fond of this episode either but with how dramatic and dark this show can be at times, the comedy and light really helps to balance it out. Especially if you binge watch the show - which I would never recommend anyone to do. I always recommend new viewers to take their time with it. Get used to the characters, the whiplashing tones and themes. Don’t go diving into it one episode after the other in quick succession because you miss out on a lot of important nuanced detail that way. But a one-off bottle campy episode every now and again is a good way to provide respite for what’s to come with the crux of the narrative of the season. You’ll find yourself craving these kind of episodes after a certain point. Granted this one didn’t have to be as zany and bawdy as it is but at least you can see that the creators/cast/crew had fun with it. That’s always most welcome. I think Xena instructing Gabrielle to “go in there and give him a nice big kiss” and Gabrielle’s subsequent aggressive drooling expression was the highlight of this episode for me. She’s just so done with Xena’s shit. Renee always gets the spit or vomit gags. Physical comedy is clearly her forte whereas Lucy’s is with the dialogue - the crazy impressions and accents. Together, they’re a great dramatic and comedic acting team. They really did struck lighting with those two lead actresses because an episode like this would be a slog to get through otherwise. For the most part - you can just enjoy them being the craziest idiots and that’s enough.

2024-11-16 14:26:59 +0000 UTCI've seen a number of people react the same way to this episode, but for me it's hilarious 😆 it makes me laugh every time.. those 3 are master comedians and don't mind grossing out to get the laughs, it's just great

My favorite joke in this one is Gabby saying "tell us what you know" in her numbed mouth voice; not the drool, just the line. I will say that not a lot of shows would be willing to have their beautiful female stars looks so unappealing for an entire episode.
