Early Sneak Peak: The Other Mother from Coraline!

Hey all! We were shooting for a new video this weekend but this thing is taking way longer than we planned. We're turning "Darling Dolly" into The Other Mother from the film Coraline. This has been one of our most requested creatures to build so when the Darling Dolly came out this year it was perfect!

The animatronic is already really close to the right shape. It has this great big hunch in it's back and kind of falls forward with this long creepy arms and hands. It's still been a lot of work to convert it but we're loving where it's at so far. :)

Because we've added a LOT of weight to it with custom sculpting, a new wig, new arms, hands, dress, etc....we're also exploring some new techniques like adding springs to assist the motor. These animatronics are just so.....well, fragile? They break easily. It really doesn't take much to burn out the motor so we've gotta be very conscious of the weight issue. Hopefully learning how to take some of that weight off with springs will be helpful! We'll see...

Anyway, we were shooting for this weekend but we're still not done with it so it'll probably be early next week! Wanted to share some WIP (work in progress) photos with y'all and say hello!
