Fjording diary: Ellie

This has been a dream of mine ever since I was a little kid, but I'm finally in a position where I can make it a reality. So I started doing research on Fjord breeders in the UK, and discovered the Dunkird herd through a friend of mine!
I visited Ely back in July last year. We had been in talks about me booking a foal from the stud in-utero and I got to meet the whole herd and their 2 babies, Avocet and Cuckoo. I confirmed my booking and I've been waiting and hearing stories about the herd since then. ♥
The stallion and dad of the foals is Mosegårdens Hauge, from Denmark! His mother is Mosegårdens Cirkeline who is still resides with the stud in Denmark.
My original plan was to request for a Dunkirk filly, regardless of who the mum is, as pregnancy is a very challenging thing for a mare to go through, so we didn't want to pick a dam too early. However, just a few days ago the breeder asked if I'd like to have Ellie's foal, so I could have a namesake's baby! And I thought it couldn't be more perfect!
Ellie is a very sweet and caring character in the herd. She makes sure everyone is ok and she's been a great auntie to all the foals that have been born at the stud so far. ♥ She's not had a foal in Cambridge yet, so this will be her first one in England. She's had foals before in Wales but I'm still looking into finding out who they are. :D

The foal is expected to drop in May (along with 2 others in the herd). I'll be in Shetland by then and covid is making things a bit more awkward. I'm crossing my fingers I'll be able to fly and visit when the time comes!
