These single stones are scattered throughout Väinölä, and their purpose remains unknown. What these were built for, by whom, when, nothing's certain. But no person thinks fondly of them.
They're built in peculiar places. They're mostly concealed in remote nature, preferably close to or within a body of water.
***
They all share similar traits: The stone is always tall, top-heavy, and they all have a hole carved into them.
They're decorated with bones of birds and bigger animals.
They seem to be maintained, but it is not known who tends to them exactly.
Common consensus is that they belong to the exiled, and are sometimes kept watch by vigilantes, in hopes to find any hidden witch tribes to hunt down.
***
Before these grim connections, they were believed to be built for deities of hunting, fishing, woods and protection.
Eventually they were solemnly linked to the River of Tuonela, and are riddled with curses and hexes. Hence, they were connected to witches, and got the name "Witches Shrines".
***
When found, these shrines have been ripped up and tossed away. However, coincidentally (or not) whoever picked one up to destroy, died an unfortunate death or faced a crippling accident.
