Sketch compilation of various spec-evo marine animals
Added 2025-04-15 13:45:34 +0000 UTCHere is a nice selection from my sketchbooks. These ideas are completely random - they do not make up a consistent universe. The top picture depicts a variety of plausible spec-evo sea serpents - including "burly sea snakes".
Some more fictional sea snakes, including a moray-like form.
A "penguin pterosaur" - an idea every self-respecting spec-evo artist has to try out once.
Strange "pinch whales", perhaps of therapsid ancestry.
A stocky, finless, benthic relative of the goblin shark, Mitsukurina owstoni.
A dainty, pale plesiosaur alongside a huge, Mawsonia-like lungfish.
A "land-fish" of unknown ancestry, drawn during a live-stream.
A fancy beaked dolphin - a mammal with a gnarly, beak-like face, alongside a fantastic reptile.
And finally, the study of a long-necked, "Dutch sea serpent" as a pinniped; a speculative animal hypothesised by Bernard Heuvelmans.
