Ideal American house

Some things I can't fathom in suburban American housing include the total exposure of the entrance floor to intrusion; and the vulnerability of the materials to fire.

Here, then, are my fantasy sketches for "ideal American houses", with concrete & steel rebar construction, and a windowless entrance floor with a solid metal door to deter intruders. The second sketch also features a fully enclosed garage. Now I can rest easy.

The European mind cannot comprehend the windowless slab of concrete

Unlocked doors - wow - imagine that... I know it used to be a thing in Turkey as well... Feels like the most outlandish fantasy these days. :/

As an American (unfortunately) I assume houses are designed that way to show off. You’re showing potential guests your opulence and wealth. I’m going to assume a lot of this was sparked by the rich, who could afford gated homes or gated communities. Also, depending on where you live, the fear of someone breaking is rare. The town I grew up in was one of these. Most people left their doors unlocked or even open (in summer).
