Yes, I definitely recommend exploring the other avenues Mario has gone besides the mainline platformers. Especially the RPGs, and Paper Mario would be an excellent choice since it's sitting right there on NSO with Mario 64. And of course, the TTYD remake is on Switch as well, which I'd probably recommend a bit more despite being the second game. Either way, I think those games would give you the best look at the Mario WORLD, how it functions outside of all the jumping and wahoos.

2026-01-18 19:04:44 +0000 UTCPaper Mario is an RPG that was originally called Super Mario RPG 2, but had to be changed since Square seemed to have co-ownership of the name Super Mario RPG with Nintendo, and weren’t involved with the development of Paper Mario. The Paper Mario games are developed by Intelligent Systems who are also the developers of Fire Emblem and Wario Ware. They were also a support studio back in the day that helped develop games like Super Metroid and Mario Paint.
