If you're speaking casually about familiar media, I can jump in and out of the conversation at random irregular intervals. If you're getting deep into heavy topics, now I need uninterrupted listening time and to watch my footing closely lest I fall into the pit.

Man, it's a little frustrating listening to Michael complain about entire genres and write off massive swaths of the gaming world. Like the core question of FPS vs Point and Click is a little ridiculous given that an FPS *is*, fundamentally, point and click. Point and click games are basically just a limited subgenre of FPS. That doesn't make one better, that just makes them different mediums / perspectives, and make it as ridiculous to completely write them off as it is to write off all action movies forever because they've gotten stale for a couple years. And honestly, if you're consistently bored by things you used to enjoy, that's usually called depression or burn out, and it usually means you need to take a break and focus on you, and getting more variety in your life. As a comparison, playing sports non-stop still wears on your soul and leads to boredom / ennui... you end up more frustrated and constantly craving new wins and achievements rather than just enjoying playing. And playing video games non-stop will wear on your soul even more because sports are in-person, and they give you the endorphins of exercise that video games dont. That doesn't mean that video games aren't fun, it just means they can't be your whole community and socializing / work time. Similarly but from the other side, people meet regularly to play the same sport over and over and over again, week after week, for their entire lives. Why? Because hanging out with friends and lightly competing at something is fun, and there's always new variety and inventiveness from time to time. But most of it, is just the enjoyment of doing anything while hanging out and talking with friends. Friends meet every week and play games as simple as bocce ball. That's not a matter of them being simpletons attracted by shiny balls, it's a matter of them learning to be happy with just practicing and getting marginally better or even just maintaining a skill with friends. The problem isn't with the games, it's with people being too nitpicky about which game they're playing, which is a result of a lack of balance in their lives. If you can't have fun doing an activity with friends, especially one you use to enjoy, then try doing something else for a while. Mix it up and meet for a zoom tabletop night or go out and do some physical bowling or paint a picture or take a canoe trip. You're brain is craving novelty of a variety that no video game can provide in the same way that doing nothing but bowling will make you bored. Still love the pods and all the content and thoughtful discussions. Don't take my criticism too harshly. It grates because several of my closest friends have gone through similar phases, and because I have my own things I need to work on that lead to listening to too many podcasts. But when you poke everything and it hurts, sometimes the problem is with poking things too much.
