I really enjoyed the live action Cowboy Bebop, but I'm generally put off by anime. After listening to these, maybe I'll give the old version another try

Great episode! That the old men are Gen Z makes a surprising amount of sense 😅 About Faye and her clothing, I feel a little more forgiving of this choice for her character than other obvious fan service because she owns it, she weaponizes it. She’s not a cute innocent girl that seems oblivious to the fact her skirt is short and her boobs are out. You can see in the flashbacks that she’s curated this look for herself over time, it gives her power.

“Wilted Spike” surprised a hard laugh from me!

Maddy

Hahaha wow yeah I can see how it might clash with your tastes.

Oh I don’t know, I haven’t deeply explored why it doesn’t do it for me. I don’t generally enjoy listening to jazz, but I like the complexity of jazz and its analysis. I don’t really like watching noir or westerns or operas, but I like deconstructing their archetypes and the aesthetics are cool as hell. Watching an episode of Bebop is like pulling teeth for me, but I love the title sequence so much that Tank! was my ringtone from like 2008-2014. I like the vibe of all the things but I don’t want to swim in it I guess.

Love the user name and love the factoid. Hell yes

Chris

So curious, is it the mishmash of tones that finishes the execution for you?

Chris

Great discussion!

Chris

I think I like the idea of Cowboy Bebop more than I like the execution. I like this podcast though, and love hearing how you two like and appreciate it!

James Crosslin

Charlie Parker, the man speaks to Jet in his dream was the godfather of the bebop genre of jazz.

Jett's is akin to the old dependable truck that one friend has that always gets asked to help move at some point from his other "friends".

Spike's is an ex racing craft and Faye's is a ex police craft. Kinda like an the old black and whites beater cars that were old cop cars but in space... and missiles.
