Super hyped for the Sekiro episode. My introduction to from games and one of my favorite games of all time.

Matthew DeSanctis

The lighting in DS2 is strange, because Fromsoft didn't build the lighting engine. They bought it off the shelf pretty late in DS2's development when they realized their own lighting engine wasn't stable enough to render the the Shrine of Amara. The new engine didn't have all the same features as the one they built themselves. It couldn't render pitch darkness. There are a lot of areas that are supposed to be too dark to navigate without a torch(imagine a game with 3 Graves of the Giants, those whacky Fromsoft devs), that's why torches have a time limit and and torch lighters are treated as an important item by the lore and level design.

You call that a crocodile dundee reference?

Skill issue. No for real most fans will say level adp and when you level that up enough you get the real iframes. I know I sound like a nerd but dark souls 2 isn't that hard. The only thing that makes that game better than the others (ds3 is my favorite) is the lighting engine. It's beautiful when you look at that alone

Taking to ganz when he streams is cool because occasionally I'll get a chuckle but when michael makes him laugh really really hard it's so wonderful

The specific problem with Dark Souls 2 is that they tried to surface movement speed to the player as a stat the player can tweak. Dark Souls 2 had "Adaptability" that affected the animation speed of a variety of actions, most notably dodging and healing. This meant that a character out of the box had a dodge that took longer to start up, didn't move as far and spent less time being invincible. Adaptability only improved these things for every 4 to 6 points invested, so there was no immediate feedback to a player trying to intuit what this stat even does. This meant that the trailblazing players, the people who beat these games in the first weekend and write all the guides a lot of the rest of the community use to onboard, largely didn't invest in this critical stat at all and had a pretty bad time.
