685. 1Upsmanship: Alan Wake 2

Comments

I just finished listening to QQ with Soren and Daniel and most of their recent episode dealt with people in media who are written to be experts at something and if they succeeded or not. They gave examples of writers in tv shows or movies who are supposed to be good writers and how hard that is to pull off in fiction. I find it pretty cool that you guys have such a similar conversation in regards to this game. EDITING because I’m typing as I listen, but they ALSO talked about Mulholland Drive!

I think of dreamlike stories like Alan Wake 2 or Mulholland Drive as what Ken Levine calls narrative Legos (not how I think he intended it). The author gives you pieces in the form of scenes, images, lines and themes, and you construct what you want out of them, but there is no secret author's manual on how the set is to be properly constructed.
