Too much happens to make those comparisons because the plots are generally much more elaborate. I highly recommend it. I wasn't actually a Trekkie before i watched it. That show made me retroactively go back and watch Star Trek OS and TNG

I get why Mike especially has reluctance to engage with it, but Lower Decks is the current era Star Trek show that most nails the emotional impacts of the classics. SNW *might* have an edge for pure sci fi self contained episode feel, but Lower Decks really does capture the sentimental element that has been missed from a lot of Star Trek. Even as it winks.
