Now and Then Cross Promo

You can fine the game here: Now and Then

Overview:

Now & Then
is a story of Jack (or a name of your choosing)  Brooks, a widower who lives with his adopted teenage daughter, Carol,  during the aftermath of a global pandemic. Throughout the story, players  witness the string of events that finds Jack adopting Carol and how  they grow into a family unit before the collapse of civilized society.  Inspired by Stephen King’s The Stand and numerous zombie movies and books, Now & Then is a tale of survivors learning to cope with life as it comes to them.

I'm going to attempt to do justice to what the developer Kinderfield wrote about my game, because this is one of my personal favorites.

Full disclosure, I began doing the mod for this game based on the overview and images alone. Just that was enough to interest me. It's not your typical game in any form or fashion. It doesn't fall prey to the tropes of your average fap game, there is much more to this offering. What Kinderfield has done is not only create a post apocalyptic setting, but one with soul, and some characters you genuinely care about, that are easy to become attached to.

When I first started playing the game in a very early version I was forced to ask myself "Why aren't more people playing this?" It took a few updates for the community to catch up, but it did. Because, I know less than nothing about Honey Select images, I ran a few of them by my friend TD1300, another Honey Select developer for Pale Carnations. I remember saying, this looks different than anything I've seen in an HS game. He quickly confirmed the images were exactly what I thought they were, exceptional. There is a very distinct art style which separates it from stock Honey Select games. Since we are discussing the technical. If you are playing this with the sound off, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. The mood and suspense it creates through both music and effects add greatly to the overall narrative, and are not be missed.

I spoke briefly about the characters before, but they need more of my attention. The two main love interests in the game (there are three now with the addition of Sydney) are Carol and Naomi. From the very beginning you want to love and take care of these two. They both have distinct personalities and will react very differently in certain situations. You don't see this a lot in your average game, at least not with this kind of range. I credit this to writing skill.

People say "Show me don't tell me" in visual novels. I think that's a bunch of crap. To be an effective story teller you must do both, and I'll even go as far as the "Novel" part of Visual Novel is the most important piece. There are a lot more people who can do images well, than those who can write a coherent purposeful narrative and create memorable situations. Kinderfield excels at this, which is what I play games for in the first place. That's not to say there isn't plenty of erotic moments, there absolutely are, and they are also written and animated with expertise.

In closing this is not just a story about zombies, although that's there. This is a piece about people who are easy to care about. The amount of content that's already present is astounding to me. I have no idea if HS is faster than Daz to develop with. I've heard it is, but even if  that's correct, I've never seen Kinderfield fail to release a monthly update. Let me talk about the size of those as well. It's worth playing each and every one. It's not the type of game you have to skip two or three updates in order to get a lot of content. A single one is more than enough.

If you have yet to play this beautiful game I highly recommend you check it out now. The public release should happen in the next few days. But, I went ahead and did this early because the developer is well worth supporting. You can also play the last public release to test the game out first if you want on his patreon v0.15.0. The new release that is out for patrons is v0.16.0 which as I said will go public soon. I'm not kidding guys, this is a great game that I love!

I play "Now & Then" every update. I agree it is a diamond. One that, I for one, enjoy a lot. One that I will be supporting come the first.
