Jumper T16 and Foxeer Box 2 Followup

People keep asking me: have you switched to the Jumper T16 full-time yet? Should I get the T16 as my main radio? Here's the honest answer. I'm still relying on my X9D.

In my review of the T16, I listed three things I wanted Jumper to do, before I would consider the T16 as my main radio: upgraded gimbals; internal multiprotocol module; and internal battery charging via USB. Although none of these are absolute must-have features, the radio will be much better with them, and I'm hoping if I hold out, it'll increase the odds of getting it done.

But there's more to it than that. Some people who bought the T16 are reporting stuck or non-functioning buttons. And sure enough, I ran into this same issue just the other day. (And it's not like I have put hours and hours of use into the radio.)

So the T16 still has a little work to do before I move to it, but I have high hopes that Jumper will rise to the occasion. The T16, and Jumper as a company, have so much promise that I am willing to forgive them a few mis-steps on the road to success. (If you have a T16 with broken buttons, they better take care of you though.)

The Foxeer Box 2 is another review that needs a follow-up. In my review of this camera, I commented that the Box image almost looked lower-resolution than the GoPro's. Then I dismissed that observation... surely it can't be true. But RCSchim has released a comparison between the Box 1 and Box 2 which he says shows that the scaler algorithm in the Box 2 is defective. The result is that, when the Box 2 is set to 2.7k resolution, you are actually getting 1080 resolution. This explains why the Box 2 looked better in 4k than it did in 2.7k: because only in 4k was it actually delivering the full resolution of its sensor.

Despite this observation, I still think the Box 2 may have a place in your kit. Because, in this price range, what else is there? Some people will prefer a refurbished Hero4 Session (but it maxes out at 1080 resolution). And a few people are looking towards the Runcam 5 (I'm working on my review of this now). The thing is, there are so few entries at this price point that even with the Box 2's flaws, it still may be good enough to earn your money.

I'm using a T16 daily at least 1 hour in the simulator for 22 days, so far so good. The only thing i had to do was to heat the battery holder and bend it, so the spring could do it's job. No FCC approval as far as i know.

I did get a T16, and so far am quite happy with it, however I don't get to fly nearly as much as I'd like so it has by no means gotten hard use.

The future is The tarsier approach.

I switched my box 2 from 2.5k to 4k and the increase in quality is huge. I too looked at the bitrate for the given resolution and settled on 2.5k being the best on paper. Only because of the community did I work out otherwise.

Thank you so very much for this response. I really appreciate how you listen to your community and talk directly to them. Thank you for all you do. We really appreciate it.

I spent $29 for a Polaroid Cube from Amazon which works for me for now. I also have a T16 and haven't had any issues with mine yet and works much better than my old broken DX6i.

I totally agree price range is a huge factor and no theres not many options. Question have you checked the hawkeye firefly 2 yet? It's another cheap option but havent seen to much on it.
