Patrons-first: 4S vs. 6S raw flight footage

I'm working on a video comparing 1050 mAh 6S vs 1500 mAh 4S. These batteries have much closer watt-hours than the 1250 mAh 6S I previously compared. For those who want to get an early look, here are four flights, without revealing which is which.

I'm guessing 1 and 4 were 4s

Sounds like its an RPM limiter controlled via the firmware.

I've tried out the Emax RSII-2207-1600kv's @ 4S and found those to be really powerful for their size / weight. Should prove to be really good for 6S / 5" Props. Other then that, i seem to recall that Higher KV motors have diminishing returns as the KV drops. It's something about how voltage Drives RPM's while current drives torque. Biggest gain here is that the voltage sag on 6S should be less.

Waitaminute. I can limit my 2450kv hype trains to output 1700kv, when flying with 6s, using a beta flight setting? Ok. Going to watch BF4 motor scaling now...

I just a week ago, put some 1700kv motors on a cl1 that is heavy, I did all kinds of stuff to lighten it up, and never was happy with how it flys. I used 1050 rdq 6s packs and it was a big improvement over 4s with 2450kv. I was taking it easy to get a feel for the difference and I got a 1.5 minutes more flight time. The max amp draw was 36amps. I did a few full throttle power loops with almost no sag and never got a batt low warning. As to the longevity of the pack, I would think because of higher voltage, lower amp draw they would last a little longer, but I could be wrong. I've only got 5 cycles on two 1050 6s pack at this time.

If I remember correctly he is using 1700kv motors in the last video.

I have gone back and forth in 4s vs 6s. I now fly a 6s 1300. It all really depends on setup and props ect.. there is no real way to compare the 2

I may just be crazy. But I’m pretty sure I can tell which ones are 6s. I have 4, 5, and 6s freestyle rigs and I’ve noticed that the motors have their own distinct sound. My 2150kv hypetrains have a lower, almost grumbly pitch than my 2450kv hypetrains. And they are basically the same motor.

I tried this comparison (Tattu RLine) and for the same flight time and style, the 6S battery cells started going kaput after only 8 uses. Like one or two cells built huge resistance. Even at the same Wh level can you really use them the same? Does 6S need higher Wh to keep up with amp draw? I definitely prefer to fly 6S but my impression is you have to have higher Wh for the same flight time (I.e. end up flying more aggressive with more power on same motors (Hypetrain 2207 2450kv))

To simulate the 1650 did you just limit the throttle ?

Thank you for sharing JB - this was the battery I choose too, So it will be great hear what your conclusions were...

David Owens

Can we get the conclusion? Is 6s worth it?
