Lubo Chapter 24 Page 18

Oh hey Rikku's here too! This one another reason I never cut to the bakery in this chapter. I didn't want to let the reader in on who all was at the bakery by the time Luna got there to keep the backup a surprise. Initially I was going ot have Lubo be the one to respond to Rikku's appearance in panel 3, but I decided to have Tygo have a say on this situation too. Plus Lubo is probably distracted by this friend of Lopu that he's never met before. Tygo is still not great with names, so he addre...

Chapter 24 Page 17

I had planned for Team Lubo to be on the losing end to Margrethe. Part of the reason I had Auda go down via overexertion was for this, but it also benefits the story for me in another way.

I hadn't had the opportunity to show what happens if someone is still conscious while in this state, as the only two people so far to be shown in this state was Lubo and Mako, both of which passed out right away due to other reasons. With Auda still up and in a situation where she will NOT want to bac...

Oh hey, the last chapter had a big wave on page 16 and now this chapter has a big wave on page 16. Anyway, i have nothing else to say about this page.

I was initially going to have panel 6 with a gradient background. But with how big it was, it seemed like a waste to have it empty, so I put in a minimalistic representation of where she comes from as a bit of a lore drop as it's relevant to what she's talking about in that specific panel.

I'll let the rest of page speak for itself.

Batuu: Don't tell me she's still gonna keep trying to fight... =w=

With that reveal out of the way, I figured now would be the perfect time to get inside Otto's head. It would most likely be the best chance for the reader to understand what Otto is going through.

Spent more time than I expected on that background in the first panel, but I think it was worth it. I haven't been drawing the town a lot the past 3 chapters, counting this one, and we won't be seeing it again until sometime next chapter. The rest of this chapter will take place on the beach.<...

Lubo Chapter 24 Page 13

The reason I had Auda, Otto, and Margrethe all share a cover 2 chapters in a row is for this reveal specifically. Initially Margrethe flubs Akera's name due to the "g" and "k" sounds being extremely similar to make with one's mouth, and could lead to her having to assume which one it was with heir being deaf. Either way she was close enough to confirm that she does indeed know Auda's mother.

Lubo and Tygo are awake! I absolutely had to have them both be conscious for this moment. They'...

This fight scene was over 20 pages, counting the start of it in the previous chapter. I had forgotten how much simple non-action pages were compared to action ones. There's not as much planning needed when it comes to choreography and I can mostly ignore the 180 rule a bit more often.

If anyone was wondering why I had Otto, Auda, and Magrethe on the cover of this chapter AND the last chapter... well...

Batuu: Wait, she knows about Auda's mom? :3

Lubo Chapter 24 Page 11

I'm surprised this is the first time I've done this for a comic page, but I ended up having the panels scattered and separated. I figured this would be a good way to visually represent Auda's current state of being. This is also why I chose not to have an onomatopoeia for panel 6's impact. I would have used some black for the background out side of panels, but I save that color exclusively for flashbacks.

I'm not sure if any readers would have made note of this, but I like ha...

She did it once, and she does it again! Instead of an entire rib cage, however, it's leg bones. I suppose this time it would have to be a mix of the tibia and fibula.

Not much else i have to say about this page. I hope I wrote Lubo trying his best (under pressure) to make the best moves he could have made, but alas, Margrethe was one step ahead regardless.

Batuu: HA! Didn't see that coming, did you? >:3

Chapter 24 Page 9

I've planned this specific set of actions for actions for a while, Margrethe trapping Lubo like this followed by him reverting back to normal to get out of it. It wasn't until coloring panel 5 that I realized that Lubo's fur in his normal form is nearly identical to Margrethe's bones (and I guess how I'd be coloring bones for the rest of this series, should they come up again). The hex code for Lubo's fur is #CBCBCB and bones are #D0D0D0. It's harder to tell in the finished product due to the...

Did I mention that Margrethe's power is surprisingly fun to write for? Yeah I got nothing much else to say about this page. I guess I could mention that I left the Japanese onomatopoeia w/o it's own subtitle. I haven't needed to do one of those explanations in commentary for a long while. It reads as "Zo!" and it's used for something suddenly rising up. There wasn't really a good single word in English for that, so I left it alone this time. I like letting people fill in what they want it to ...

So you might be wondering about the number of bone clubs are laying around. The first one pulled ended up in the water when Margrethe was thrown by Lubo into the ocean and then she was pulled away from it at the end of the last chapter. That club is what she's holding now.

The second club was pulled out in the beginning of this chapter and was left on shore when Auda forced her back into the ocean, which is what she ended up throwing at Tygo just now, hence it's dryness.

This is p...

Chapter 24 Page 5

Been a while since I had to do an animated page, eventually I'll get the hang  of doing this in Clip Studio Paint next chapter. This one is probably my second best animation for this comic yet (the best, in my opinion, being the one in chapter 22). At first it was going at twice the speed, which was WAY too fast for Auda's skill level, so I had each frame simply last twice as long.

The panels on the second row I had upside down to try to give a disorienting appearance. I initially ...

Aw yeah another action page that doesn't require breaking the 180 rule. Panel placement planning sure was difficult for it tho, but I somehow got it work decently. Also something I rarely try doing is putting a character in front of the panel they're supposed to be a part of. I think this is generally an okay thing to do, but the fact that I have a 4th wall breaking character makes me more reluctant to do it. I wanna try being less relucant for that in the future.

It took me a bit to de...

Lubo Chapter 24 Page 3

Now it's sorta explained that Margrethe doesn't want to touch the water. Basically she knows that being in the water would put her at the mercy of Auda's power, so it's best to not step foot in it. Lubo and Tygo have figured this out too, which is why they're pushing back.

Speaking of which, now I've gotten to shown another thing the power can be used for. A distraction! Also yay I didn't ahve to break the 180 rule during a fight scene page.

Batuu: A surfboard...? A friggin surfbo...

Lubo Chapter 24 Page 2

Now we're back in the action for quite a few pages. It'll elaborated a bit more in the next page, but Margrethe is trying to avoid getting pulled into the water from Auda's power. Hopefully that is easy to understand.

Also hoping it's easy to understand what's going on in panels 3, 4, and 5. But just in case, I was trying to convey her pole vaulting off the ground with her bone club and then spinning to get ready to strike. I also apologize for breaking the 180 rule in a fight scene. It...

Lubo Chapter 24 Page 1

And now we pick up right where we left off and the explanation for how Auda got here is very simple. As useful as it would be to wear out Margrethe underwater, Auda had to think fast to get Lubo out of that tight spot, and she would want to ask them both what's going on anyway.

If you're wondering what's going on with the dialogue in panel 4, Margrethe didn't see Auda say anything about Luna "going to get more help" so since she can't hear, she assumed that Auda was the only back up Lun...

Fugaia - Lubo Chapter 24 Cover

Four chapters into this volume and Auda already gets featured in 3 covers. I wonder if poeple will suspect anything because of that. Well have fun speculating. I will point out that everyone on this cover was featured in the last chapter's cover only one's wearing a disquise now. Funny how that works out.

I almost called the previous chapter as "Crossbones". But I had to change it because in outside material I kinda let it slip that the masked lady had an association to bones and worri...

Lubo Chapter 23 Page 35 (Last)

Alright, now you know Auda and Margrethe are on the same chapter cover. There's a bit more to it than just that ending, but I'll get to that later.

If you forgot Auda can move people in the water, she only did it the one time in the previous chapter. Also dang I won't be drawing underwater stuff for a while, I guess I have to do actual backgrounds again.

Batuu: Oh well it's just Auda, she won't be too much trouble for Margrethe >:3

Lubo Chapter 23 Page 33

And just like that, Lubo's pulled back under. I'm having way too much fun thinking of ways for Margrethe to utilize her power in this one fight. But boy does it make for her producing things that are tricky for me to draw. This spinal cord whip is deceptively complicated to set up.

Probably hard to notice, but the aura surrounding the whip when she pulls it out is NOT affected by the underwater filter I have going on. I do this so the coloring of a Dark Aura is preserved even underwater...

The very first page I've ever had that's completely submerged in water. I felt like leaving out some of the usual sound effects to reflect the silence of underwater.

Hopefully it's easy to tell what's going on in panels 2 to 4. She's supposed to be dislocating her shoulders so she can rotate in an unusual way. I realize that panel 2 in particular looks like a pose someone could do for real, but not if you think about the position she was in prior to that panel.

So I having a lot of fun finally getting to do a beach fight for the first time, as you might have guessed. Good thing it's not quite over yet.

Oh yeah this is the first time Tygo has noticed Lubo's red eye mode. This makes him the 3rd character now, after Luna and Olaf.

Oh hey i got to let Tygo speak in blue text due to using a Lunar Spell. This page was very fun to write. I did end up changing some things after sketching though.

The last panel used to be two separate panels and it was going to the left instead of the right. I flipped it to not break the "180 Rule" during a fight scene page. The panel merging was to make it it feel more like he's throwing her a far distance.

I ended up wanting to keep Lubo falling to the ground, so hopefully it's...

Hazzuh! Tygo has casted his first Lunar Spell! And a spell a haven't used since chapter 7. That was such a long time ago, but I did at least use it's Solar equivalent in chapter 19.

I dropped a few hints that a new spell was learnt off screen in pages 8 and 22 of this current chapter. Rikku had basically taught them off screen when he gave Tygo that mask he was wearing earlier. Lubo also learned the Baruza spell on the same day, but he cannot use spells while he's in his Alpha Form, jus...

Lubo Chapter 23 Page 27

If you're thinking Margrethe doesn't answer Lubo's question from panel 1 because she couldn't read his mouth, then you'd be correct! Of course, Lubo does not know she's deaf, so he wouldn't be figuring out why she's giving him the silent treatment.

This also means that I don't have to canonically this question about her power. Speaking of which, yes, she can also contort her body with this skeleton power. This power I have decided to call Skeletal Clay. The boys are probably a bit gross...

This page was a bit tricky. I knew in my head how the page would go, but the posing was a bit difficult to actually execute. I think I at least got the choreography easy to read, hopefully.

That being said, I'm having a lot of fun doing the "whooshes" for Margrethe's bone club swinging. I might do it on other objects.

Lubo Chapter 23 Page 25

This page was kinda fun to make even tho it took a bit more doing than usual. I am glad I don't have to draw that hand trap again after this page tho. It was difficult to keep it consistent.

If you think Margrethe's power is a bit gross and/or disturbing, then Lubo agrees with you.

If you thought you weren't gonna see Alpha Lubo at all in this fight, then hopefully this is a pleasant surprise for you. Figure I'll take this opportunity to remind you all that Lubo can't use Lunar Spells while he's also in Alpha Form, which is why he didn't transform until now. Plus this gives a decent element of surprise against his opponents.

Batuu: Oh hey, I guess Margrethe knows what that power is called :3c

And now the fight as officially begun! But not before giving the reader a bit more information about Margrethe's prison operation. I'm sure it would surprise quite a few that she has kept this knowledge hidden from Usaro and even Dracmore.

Lubo Chapter 23 Page 22

Yup! Tygo learned his first spell off screen, shortly after Rikku gave him that mask and Moon Emblem. I plan on showing it later this chapter. You can probably guess what it is based on the dialogue.

Some readers might have already figured out that Margrethe was the one that ran the underground prison. Just in case there were any that were unsure, I've just now confirmed it in canon now. Yet another reason for me to call back to chapter 16. This will be the last time I have to draw her ...
