Q&A Submissions Wanted

Hello!

I'd like to do a series of Q&A videos, where I get on Skype or Google Hangouts or whatever with a person and help them through an issue or answer a question for them. These would be collected together into videos for the channel. Ideally I would do it live, but I think there might be too many technical issues, and at least at first, I want to take the pressure off by doing it offline first.

If you have a question or problem that you think would be appropriate for this, please comment below.

Please understand that there will probably be way more of these than I can do. I will be picking candidates largely based on how interesting the question is to me, and based on how helpful the answer will be to other people.

If you have a specific thing you need help with, or a question that you want the answer to, please post below. I will contact you individually via email (the same email on your Patreon account) if I pick your question for a segment.

Thank you all so much for supporting me!

Joshua

I'm interested in learning how to measure the amperage given out by any given beck or FC and what I'm attaching to it takes. I think I may be experiencing problems by starving some of my Bec/FC buses and the 5v given out by by attaching too much. Do you have any videos that go over that or are you considering? Thx

I am also curios. I see a number of your Youtubes from hotel rooms. I travelled for 30 years from Monday through Friday, often for months at a time to the same hotel. I wish when I had start there was an internet or computers because that would have made evenings a little easier. Do you mostly go to the same locations or do they constantly mix up? Do you go for a work week or just a day or two at a time? does your cat get ticked off when you get home and give you the cold shoulder? Just wondering, Richard

Damn return button, Hi Joshua, I have been trying to learn more about the basics of electronics for RC / FPV. I kind of understand using 5v or 12 v, or the pdb process. Similarly I have the basics of battery power and the formulas. But, I was an English major, 50 years ago, so don't really understand the why's or understand what is really going on with power, electronics type hookups. I especially get confused when we put resisters, capacitors or other magic thinks across circuits to "clean them Up". I am looking for a YouTube series that will start from very basic... through some not so very basic understandings of electronics but directed at fpv/rc quad environment. Maybe getting a little more advanced with things like, this is a multi meter?? here is where it is used and why for fpv quads. Having the tutorials in the fpv/quad world will help better focus my attention. If you already have any please let me have the links.

Hi Josua,

Oh and the project page was https://github.com/sheaivey/rx5808-pro-diversity

This probably isn't the kind of Q' you're looking for. So here is the deal, I was getting bad video range. I had tried many things. Turns out I'm in a really noisy 5.8ghz area. Someone suggested using a band scanner to find a clean channel. Only ones I could find were modules for fatsharks, which I don't have. I did however find an open source DIY. It was really fun, cheap and easy. I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing this project for a video. I'd love to see how yours would turn out! Here is mine! https://www.facebook.com/hypertoken/posts/1614458385231894

Joshua, my question is: "Is frame flex killing my PDBs?" I just burnt up another PDB. This one with actual fire. I had just reset my quad after a crash, and put my goggles on. I saw smoke in the goggles and didn't think that I should. I removed the goggles, to see my quad on fire. Again. I have killed several PDBs of different manufacture. Every one of them has been rigidly attached right against the frame. Is frame flex during crashes flexing the PDBs and causing shorts?

OK So this issue has got me completely wigged out. Sometimes while flying my Copter the throttle will become unresponsive and to keep the copter from flying away I have to hit throttle hold. All the components worked fine on my old frame. I got this issue on my new frame. I took all the components off my new frame and put them back on my old frame and it was fine. This has happened to me before with frames that had skinny floppy arms and you get an osillation that causes the Flight Controller to become unresponsive. Like flying the ASL Hiro plastic Frame without the Top Shell. But this frame has really stiff arms. All day yesterday I tried isolating the FC more. Adding Filtering. I have metal bolts going through the PDB and then plastic standoffs and rubber O-rings for the KISS FC on top and bottom. I thought that solved the issue but when I was testing in my backyard it did it again. And you can tell when it will do it because throttle becomes laggy and then thottle totally becomes unresponsive and you have to hit throttle hold or it will just keep flying towards space :). I know it is probably not an issue with the frame. Maybe blackboxing it would help? I put everything back on the QAV210 and I couldn't get that issue to happen. Which is even more strange. I'm so lost on what to do. https://youtu.be/yO_ZAajW_AQ

I'm new at quadcopters so everything is interesting

Is it prudent to always use 30A ESCs on 5" builds so that the ESC is never a bottleneck between motor and battery?

Any info on pid settings for beginner flyers is appreciated.

Hi.. so since it seem everybody around is transitioning to 5/6 cell lipos.. i wonder how tuning may differ on these setups. For example, i had to tune 6 cell quad week ago.. it seem that BF defaults were about to fry my motors to add to that trend, motors are also getting bigger..what do you think? Is it something worth talking about?

Hey y'all....what is the difference between Spektrum's "Satellite" receiver and every other receiver out there such as Flysky or Frsky receivers? -Dr Ron

There are different filter presets out there like high filters setting, low or ultra low filter preset how they effect our flight performance? I heard some strange voices of motors when some guys set there filters up!

Hy how are you? People here argu with me alot about FC they say nothing happen wht ever FC we use please tell me if there is a different between naze, betaflight f3, raceflight or kiss if any :)

i like a topic of demystifying the FPV camera specifications.. I guess that would open up a small can of worms .. but its worth it since these days a ton of manufacturers put our jargon stuff and what is actually means and how does it effect a flight or quality of video capture... let me know what you think.. thanks

I'd have to agree with Mark ans Javier. battery management is something I've always battled with. also I'm using medium density foam to softmount. I'd think TPU would be better.

Should you soft mount with TPU? Seems to me it could never be perfectly level this way, compared to just a couple of layers of electrical tape. Heck should we even do this at all anymore with the rubber grommets on the FC?

Hi josh would love to see more indepth videos showing how you setup the alarms for batts etc on the taranis radio .

Building a Betaflight F3 build and want calculate how many devices I can load onto the 5 volt regulator... I.e. RX, VTX, camera, LEDs, etc. If I have to use a separate 5volt supply, maybe we can talk about that too.

Just built a stretch x hyperlite. Omnibus F4 pro, tbs unify HV, rotor riot runcam. Everything is all good until I arm the quad. Then I get noise on video and osd flickers. Any ideas why?

Are the use of stretched quads helpful for racing as the hype says? For example the same exact quad but one stretched and one not. Could you compare a x-quad verse and x-streched quad.

Whats the best / easiest way to get rid of noise in FPV video feeds? Im working through a few different solutions to figure out what works but it takes so much time!

I am doing a Chameleon Betaflight F3 build with Tramp unify pro and new Foxeer FPV cam. I could use help making sure the OSD and Smart Audio is connected right. Or I have a finished KissFC that I need to add the Furious FPV PIGGY OSD V2 for Kiss FC for the OSD or use the Tamp unify pro 5v with the new Foxeer FPV Cam and setup the Taranis to work for PIDs and Cam control.

Joshua, would you please post a video about this min throttle/idle speed issue on dshot. I know it's awesome to see your motors spinning rediculously slow and quiet but many, many people are switching to dshot and setting it way to low and falling out of the sky when doing fast flips and rolls. I know it took me a long time and a lot of reading to figure this out. I see it every day in one forum or another. It is in the wiki but only a small bit under dshot and nobody reads the wiki. Instead they replace everything on their setup to find it only takes raising digital idle a bit higher than when your motors start spinning. I think it needs to be made a little more known. Thanks.

Joshua, I've been plagued with a problem that has been causing my 220-sized quad to spin out of the sky. Otherwise, the quad flew fine. When I would do a series of rolls or pitch-overs, the quad would tumble continuously until impact. Turns out, it was simply setting the idle motor speed too low. 1030 on BF3.1.7. This issue took almost two weeks to resolve unfortunately. A friend and I work on it for the entire time changing motors, ESCs, and checking PDB and wiring. Very insidious. Thank you - John

Sounds great. I just wish I had a nasty conundrum to throw out there. It'll happen
