Yep, this is Takahashi's first game and he threw everything in it. Each Xenoblade basically plucks various story elements from Xenogears' expansive story. It's my all-time favorite game, XBC3 is the closest I've felt to the highs of that game since, glad you're playing it. And this won't spoil anything, but Melkaba is a mistranslation of Merkabah, which will hint at the type of location the song is set in.
