Yeeeah, Final Fantasy X reactions are very much "I'm a simple man" situations for me. And I think I've said it before, but it's fun to watch your FF journey over time through these reactions and let's plays. It really comes through that music is your thing, you pick up moods, motifs, settings, etc.
Question: after you play a game, do you come back to your reactions and listen back to what you said about the songs? Because, well, all I'm gonna say is, mark this one. Coming back to your comments on these two tracks after eventually playing the game will make you smile, I promise ;-)
In your recounting of the Final Fantasy music you heard, I think you wanted to mention FFVI (you know, Dancing Mad, Terra's Theme). Yeah, I remember you promised to play six as well. Man, those FF fans, amirite? ;-)
I know what you mean with the orchestral thing. I think the problem with overuse of orchestral music is that after a while, it just starts to sound all the same. Can't distinct one orchestral noise from another. Depends on the composer, too, obviously. I think some people just automatically put orchestral music on a pedestal as the holy grail of all music because it's the most difficult to compose and to perform by virtue of the sheer number of instruments, and therefore people, involved. Some people seem to think that makes it automatically superior. But despite the difficulties involved, it's still only one way of instrumentation, and it's not good for everything, every time, and can just as easily be overrepresented on an OST as everything else.
Side note, the clarinet has a deeper tone, I'm pretty sure the instrument playing the melody in Lulu's theme is the flute. I don't blame you, even today, it's still fairly rare to hear those instruments solo, as opposed to them being a part of the orchestra.
Lastly, when you said the name of the streamer you made The Square Pact with (that's what I'm gonna call it from now on), that got me so bad XD Let's just say that if you indeed go through with it, you'll get it, too. I proudly count myself among those who really wish for it to happen. It's one of those games, one of those life experiences, which you'll remember forever, and it doesn't matter whether you play it as a kid in 2001, or as an adult in 2024. There's a good reason we're all so passionate about it.
Hope you're doing well, Jesse, and are looking forward to your vacation. Have a great day, mate! Cheers!
