Muv-Luv Alternative - Meiya / For You Who Depart

Comments

Muv-Luv Alternative came out in 2006 and is the third game in the Muv-Luv visual novel trilogy. It's a highly regarded VN that has numerous spin-offs including more VNs/games, anime and manga. It's funny that you mentioned that the name of the game makes it sound like a high school romance because when the first game "Muv-Luv" came out in 2003, it was marketed as a generic high school dating sim. After players had beaten a couple of the routes in the game, they discovered a hidden second game "Muv-Luv Unlimited". This second game introduces the science fiction setting with the mechs. The first two games have multiple endings depending on the choices you make. Muv-Luv Alternative on the other hand, has a linear story that by the time it ends you'll have spent 80-120 hours with these characters between the entire trilogy. I first played these VNs in 2012 and was hooked almost immediately. I spent about two weeks straight playing through them the first time. I can say to this day that it was one of the most memorable, gripping and emotional stories that I've experienced in any medium. As for the song order/paring, they were requested in order that they show up in the game. They all represent pretty big moments throughout the story that I won't spoil. Martial Law plays relatively early in the game while the rest of the themes happen near the end. I will say that your impressions of Meiya and For You Who Departs were pretty spot on. A couple of the reasons that I requested these songs is that I wanted to see how someone who had never experienced the story would interpret the music and to give you a sample of just how much of a roller coaster the story can be.
