Disgaea 4 - Piano Sonata D No. 4 / You Go Girl

This video has everything I subscribed for <3 You pick up on a lot of things, you're able to filter out Fuka's singing and focus on the musical brilliance underneath, and you constructed a pretty accurate picture of the character from the clues you've been given. By the way, I'm no vocal expert, but it sounds to me like Fuka's singing is actually on key, or at least pretty close, it's just that annoying bratty voice the singer is doing that's grating on the ears. So, Disgaea. Disgaea is the most famous series of the Japanese developer Nippon Ichi Software (you might also see the logo NIS America in their English releases, which stands for Nippon Ichi Software America). TENPEI SATO Yeah, you might wanna remember that name. He's Nippon Ichi's Darren Korb, so to speak, their court composer. I see that Disgaea 7 (the most recent one) has a different composer, but Sato's been the sole composer for the previous six titles in the series, plus pretty much every other game Nippon Ichi has released. You've heard one of those already, the song Sabat from Makai Kingdom. On the list, there's more Disgaea waiting for you (you might even hear Sato himself sing), I also saw some Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, and two songs from Phantom Brave (the Phantom Brave ones were requested by yours truly #shameless plug). All Tenpei Sato's doing. To me, his style is characterized by high complexity, his compositions tend to feature a lot of instruments that pop up at various times, giving his tracks richness and a lot to discover on subsquent listens. One thing you've guessed wrong — songs like Piano Sonata are actually pretty typical for him. The difference you hear is stage music versus character themes. Yes, Piano Sonata is stage music. It plays during a specific boss fight with a lot of plot significance. Common stage music may not be this heavy or serious, but it will likely still be this rich and complex. You've got a lot to look forward to. Last notes: When you first heard Disgaea, the videos were from some fan compilation, so just to clarify — ● Etna Boogie — from the first game in the series, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (they all have subtitles) ● Etna Rock — Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (yep, the character returns for the sequel) Fuka's Theme — actually a remix of the song You Go Girl from Disgaea 1, where it was tied to a different character Yes, the blue penguins are originally from Disgaea. They're called Prinnies, they say "Dood!" a lot, they cause a lot of explosions, and yes, that's a Prinny hat Fuka is wearing. For...reasons. Thanks for reading, have a nice day! =)
