Dark Souls - Gwyn, Lord of Cinder

Comments

I'd say this is one of the examples of how much thought and consideration was put into just about everything for Dark Souls, at least the very least on a story level. This is the theme for the final boss, and with the name and knowledge of that context you think it would be bombastic and huge, but Gwyn has spent centuries letting his soul burn away in the Kiln of the First Flame to keep his age of fire going and not let the dark seep into and take over the world. Instead of the Lord of Fire though, you get the Lord of Cinder, a subdued, melancholic theme for the husk of the God that once ruled the world. Additional fun fact though, to further symbolize Gwyn's fight against the dark, this song is played entirely on the white keys of the piano, not a single black key is touched in its composition.

This song has been a long awaited, happy you finally get the chance to listen to it.

Honestly amazing

One of my favorites right here. Topping off an incredibly dark and mostly silent game with a somber, yet beautiful theme

The first Dark Souls game has tons of the more grand compositions that you're used to from the series, this one is unique in being more toned down. It also happens to be the song that plays during the final boss fight. Without going too much into lore, the setting here is a massive fire kiln full of ash with the final boss, Gwyn, standing at the middle guarding the small amount of flames that are slowly fading out in the kiln.
