Everstone Daycare - Player Character Dialogue (Repost)

Reuploaded due to the previous poll not being configured properly, giving me inaccurate information.

Howdy everyone!

If you've noticed in the latest demo, there are sections in the dialogue where your player character (in this case Charizard) actually speaks in the dialogue box, same as any other character. It ended up a little dry, but that was mostly due to it being more of a last-minute decision on my part. Prior to this, I've tried to keep anything that implies your character speaking in the form the dialogue options you're able to choose when prompted. This was mostly done due to an assumption of mine that it would help preserve immersion as it would avoid the scenario of the character speaking on behalf of the player, possibly in a way that the player didn't intend or agree to (basically the scenario of "I wouldn't have said that".)

This has led to several instances of my making single-option dialogue choices that are there only for the sake of progressing the story that unfortunately also end up grinding the pace to a halt every so often. I intend on writing in such a way that either removes the scenarios that lead to single-option prompts or makes scenarios that give the player more options to choose from in the future.

For now though, my main concern is whether or not everyone would prefer it if the player character had their own dialogue that wasn't prompted by the player, allowing the character to be more expressive, or if everyone prefers it if the player character only spoke during dialogue option prompts, having more control over how you are characterized.

I'd love to know everyone's opinions! And if you have any ideas that don't fit into either option, I'd love to hear them as well.

TLDR; Would you prefer if your character had their own unprompted dialogue or stick to only dialogue choices?
